What the heck is it and where can I get one?!

OK well my friend was drivin his '75 Ford F100 4x4 down the road the other day and runs out of gas. Well, he steers it into a field so he isn't blocking the road, and the steering goes out right there.

Well, the piece in the steering that broke connects the drag links together. It looks kinda like a tube that the drag links screw into, but it's got what look to be 4 connectors or something, but they don't go to anything.

Anyway, problem is, no auto parts stores seem to carry it. In fact, Advance Auto Parts couldn't even find a picture of it in any of their manuals after 2 different guys looked for probably close to half an hour. Carquest had a picture of it in a diagram but the manual didn't list the part or even give a name for it...can't get it. He's going to check junk yards tomorrow, but finding those trucks in junkyards is a rarity around here. It's probably too old for Ford to be able to still get one.

Anyway, what the heck is it called?!?! Or are there maybe any online manuals I can look at that might have it?

are you sure its not a sterring dampner ? what exactly broke ? the pitman arm of the drag link ? theres a inner tie rod a drag link ( goes to the passneger side) and the pittman arm. if theres a bracket on a 4x4 its most likely a steering dampner.

he found one today.....turned out Autozone had it. The parts department at Ford couldn't even get one. It's called the power steering control unit or something weird like that. It's not really a bracket, but it looks like the drag links thread into each end or something.....weird stuff.......

Control unit is a correct term. He should be very glad he doesn't have a 76 model. Those are completely obsolete and were only used for 1 year(76). That's all old school I-beam stuff. Oh, and NAPA could've found it right away.
