Neon 2.0 to Stratus 2.4 Swap

I have a 95 Plymouth Neon, in the past three months my clutch has went out, my timing belt broke bending four intake valves, idler pulley went out, cam seal fell out twice, replaced every gasket except oil pan gasket, and need two motor mounts and a new outter tierod, and my powersteering pump is going out..... I'm finished with this motor. It hasn't ran normal since the timing belt breaking and missfires when it rains. So instead of heading to the junk yard to pick up another SOHC motor, I figured I should look into a Stratus 2.4 engine. Any suggestions on how to make it easier or if its even possible or worth the trouble, I would much appreciate it. I have the SOHC motor five speed trany.

I think this has been discussed over at alpars.com or alpar.com something like that. I think a bunch of people have done it.

See if you can find anything about Captain Nemo Neon Performance online. They've done this swap several times. The motor sits a bit lower than stock, the wiring needs some special swap parts, and you will need the intake manifold off a DOHC Neon. Still, this setup is quite drivable and a quite effective upgrade.

hey I completely understand what you are going through with your neon.
I have the same 1995 ply neon 5 speed, and I have replaced my clutch, head, tranny seals, and hole lot of other things. and to top it all off, my tranny just went.
I did how ever go with another 2.0 sohc, due to not being able to find the info on the swap. if you get any let me know. email me at sizzlin_la16@yahoo.com
thanks.

Wow i dont think ive ever heard a neon engine having THAT many problems
You CAN swap a DOHC 2.4 in place of your SOHC 2.0 but its alot of work and may not be worth it unless you plan on racing
there is a howtoo however on neons.org read all of it before you atemt anything..even purchasing parts
the DOHC 2.0 is fine and Even the SOHC 2.0 is fine
mine ran 14.3 all motor on the stock bottom end, stock intake manifold,on street tires in everyday trim, the new setup should get me a 13.3 or so on slicks
if you go for a DOHC 2.0 you would need a need the complete top end including intake manifold and exhaust manifold and if you can get it the ECU
(if you can get the wireing harness that would be helpfull
if by luck you find it.. look for a 2nd gen neon with the magnum motor
it has a better head, cam, active intake manifold, and exhaust manifold
check out neons.org and look around there is TONS of info on the main page and FAQs even sticky posts with info and how too's
do yourself a favor and read some of the post for a week
before you ask questions, it will help you get a grasp of things
