Does anybody know any good websites for performance parts for a ranger

This is the ranger I was thinking about tinkering with.

I don't know much about trucks. What are you planning on doing with it? Engine swap? Lift kit? Throw out your initial ideas and let's get the ball rolling on some discussion.

well, dont have a ton of money to dump, like I want to... going to keep the engine in it (4.0 v6), thinking along the lines of cutting in a duel exhuast short throw shifter, new gears in the rear, allready have a 2" body and 2" suspension lift in the truck. its a '94 by the way.

Those had a Mazda transmission in them didn't they? I don't know if you will be able to find a short throw shifter for one of those or not. As for the exhaust I would probably pick up a couple of performance mufflers and have a local exhaust shop fab up the rest with whatever diameter pipe you want. It is probably out of your price range but someone makes a blower for 4.0 explorer and truck applications. I don't remember who makes it, I just know I saw it in a summit Catalog. What rear end does a ranger have in it? I am pretty sure someone make ranger gears, but I don't know where exactly to look for them.

I did some more searching and I take it back; Here are some gears and a hurst shifter for a Ranger with a V-6.

I dont think that they had the mazda parts in those trucks in 94

You would no more about it than me man, I was just kinda guessing since my Grandpa's early 90s F-150 has one.

I did some more digging and according to what I found both the 4wds and the 2wds have the Mazda M5R1 5 speed from 88-97.

Where to start ??? ...
Well, first of all, unless that thing has some major mods, it's not a '94. That's a '89-'92 body.
I'm pretty sure, the S/C was a Powerdyne, and I know, it's been discontinued. HOWEVER, one could have the brackets made to fit a S/C on a Ranger, so it's not the end of the world.
There are headers for 4.0 liter Rangers, so that's a plus.
4.0 liter Rangers ALL come with the 8.8" rear, so there's a plethora of gears out there.
There was also a Mitsubishi tranny in Rangers for a long time. I don't know what the criteria (to determine which tranny a particular ranger got) was. I do know the Mazda tranny had an integral bell housing and the Mitsubishi didn't. If you buy a shifter, be sure which tranny you have, first.
They still use Mazda trannies, today.
You can go to RPS to find more information about this. I'm just going off the top of my head (which proves it's not a point ).

Well I'm glad you saw this... I looked at the pic and thought... Ahh, 90 or so Ranger.. Then I read "94" and I'm like... Uhhh.. Nooo.. No, that's not a 94 at all. At least not the body.. :btg:

Don't the same headers that fit the earlier 2.9L engine also fit the 4.0? Anyway, gears are easy(any 8.8 version will do), headers are too, and any exhaust shop could make it true dual, but be sure you want that, because it often hurts performance when it's not needed.

The Mazda parts are still used, as these trucks are basically identical, even today. The trans might not have been a Mazda though.

THIS supercharger is probably still worth looking into... Btw, you'll see a pic of a 93-up(to 98 or whatever) Ranger bodystyle on that page.

Well, I wanna say "absolutely", but I never really studied (or even looked twice at) the heads' bolt pattern. I know the block is the same and the heads seemed to be the same. I just never really looked.

oops, my mistake, I have had so many cars pass through my driveway in the last couple of years, I forget what I have somtimes, It is a 92-- and I am not intrested in a supercharger, if I had the money for that, it would go into my mustang. I am just looking to have some fun with the truck, give it a little more zoomzoom

Posted by: Grape Ape

Short of a supercharger, there isn't much to make a notible difference('cept nitrous :btg: ). But I could see gears(which depends on tire size) and headers, and prolly a good air filter. Not to mention a tune-up.

Call Central Coast Mustang, they have a division called 4.0L Performance. They sell (not to cheaply) P & P'd heads, cams, throttle bodies, etc.

Did you check the 4.0 forum @ RPS?
Just curious. There's a shitload of stuff, there. Best of all, you should be able to get a good idea of what DOESN'T work.

Why's that? Because most of those clowns can't tell what's going on with anything? I don't care for that site...

Posted by: An11SecRanger

Yeah, I know you don't care for that site.
The problem as I see it is just the fact, most of those guys aren't mechanics, so they do tend to screw up. But, hey, I give'm credit for trying. And, sometimes, they get it right.
Of course, there are some guys there, who are pretty good.

how much do you think this supercharger would end up going for?

Ebay link

Posted by: 65fairlane

They were about $2500 new so, this is a random guess but I wouldn't be surprised if that one fell anywhere between the $800-$1500 range. It is ebay, so it is really hard to say, sometimes things go for cheap and sometimes they go for way more than they are worth. It's got 5 days left it is anyone's guess. He doesn't say anything at all about the condition, I try to avoid auctions like that.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Idonno... Might sell for as much as $1500, but I wouldn't pay more than $800 for it if I could see it before paying, to make sure it's all there.
