I have a C5 trans to be bolted to a 302. I have a C4 bell housing that will work.
My question is do I have to change to a C4 valve body, and If so why?

Why would you use a C4 valve body in a C5 trans? I never had anything done to the only C5 I ever owned, so Idonno what's different in each. But it seems odd to swap the valve body.

I read somewhere that this had to be done.

It sounded odd to me also, Thats why I asked. The C4 and C5 are basicly the same trans with a diffrent valve body, So I guess they are saying you need the C4 valve body to use C4 torque converter.

Well idonno... But it's not really sensable to me. They're two totally different parts, not directly connected, etc.. And you can have a converter made by numerous places, for any trans.. If they're the same dimensions, I'd prolly rather the C4's v.b. anyway, but I can't say they are, or that it would be required.

Just get a C6 and dont worry about it...lol Or maybe the ever strong FMX, had one of those, its gone now.

I have a C6 small bell.... This mofo's heavy YO!

How about adapting a strong 200-4r to it, like I did... hehehe It works excellent, and it's much less weight. Thing is, it's hardly "cheap" to do. But O/D at WOT is awesome!

I have heard mixed feelings about the FMX. From what I hear it is heavy and the drop off between gears is steeper than most people like. Supposedly they are nearly impossible to break. I have one sitting in my driveway minus the bellhousing and tailshaft.
