SOHC to DOHC

Are there any major mods that I would have to do to put a DOHC into my SOHC neon? Also, i have the 5 speed, will the DOHC work with it or will I need the trany out of the DOHC? I found one at a junkyard with a blown headgasket.

I don't know if it would work with the computer(kinda doubt it), but surely it would bolt in and to the trans(it simply must!). Someone here might know.

But if the DOHC has a blown head gasket, you can bet it was overheated, at a minimum. Do you really want to get involved in that other persons problem?

The head should still be cool, It's a bolt on to your block but wiring must be diffrent because of sensor locations and etc. you may also have to modify the belt system..

You can swap from SOHC to dohc but it may not be worth it
what are your goals?

ive seen sohc neons put down 180-190 all motor at the wheels and im hoping my other neon that made 165 will make 190 with the new setup
ive seen boosted ones running in the 10's

if you stay sohc look for a magnum head from a 2nd gen neon it flows better and has a better cam (similar to a crane #12)

look around neons.org you'll find info on motor swaps and performance parts
and even parts for sale
just make sure you look around for a while before you start asking questions
most have been answered already
