As most of you know I have a 97 T/A LT-1 A4. I have the SLP Cold air intake, Vortex Elbow, MSD super conductor wires, NGK plugs, HPP 3, 160* therm, American thunder exhaust. Now for the problem, while driving and really getting into when the RPM's reach about 5100 it starts to bog out and slowly reaches the shift point at 5600. I think it might be either the Mass air flow sensor or the opti spark. I torn between which one it may be and seeing how the races are the 12th and 13th of July I can only get one cause they both are pretty expensive. Any help on the subject will be very helpful.

I have seen way more opti problems than maff problems. The cool thing try this. If you got a buddy with an lt1 barrow his maf and see if it corrects the problem. Also I do believe that maff is used on all the newer vortec trucks (96-99) There is a plethra of them trucks running around. barrow one of thiers.

Its your mass air flow sensor. My buddy has a 1997 Firebird formula Lt1 6 speed and it had the same problem. You hit a high rpm and it boggs down expecially if your getting on it. I know its expensive but its the probblem try unpluging your mass air flow it should reset it for a couple minutes and it will run fine but after awile it will act up again.

My guess would also be to try and swap MAFs to see if it helps. Also, do you have an LT4 Knock module on it. My car ran a lot smoother after I put one in, especialy in the higher RPMS. Is it throwing any codes? Get it scanned that might help.

Couple things to try.
1. Unplug the maff and start the car, it should run just fine. Take it for a drive and see if it still sputter up top. If soo its your opti. If not then its your maff.
2. If its your maff, get some dielictric cleaner and clean out the inside of the maff. Reinstall and run it again. If it still does the same thing your maff may be faulty.

Usually when i maff die's though the car wont run at all with it plugged in.
Try this and let us know.
