w Is it worth dumping tons of money into an original 5.0 89 5 spd with high miles never wrecked and still fast and reliable but eventualy will need at least a rebuild? Im just wondering about the trans ans susp or would it be wiser and cheaper say to just get a98 4.6 62 ,000 miles

Overall, the 89 will still be less expensive, provided it's not a rust bucket(it shouldn't be) thanks to insurance and parts availability for the Fox body version. Everything except the actual shell of the Fox body Mustang is available on the aftermarket in short order. Everything from the bumper covers to the engine and even complete aftermarket suspension systems for drag or road racing or a misture of each. The car itself is so complete in the aftermarket, it's one of the least expensive cars to build from the body in that ever existed.

Car is clean as can be but if you look at bang for th buck and that 98gts are also plentifuland cheap 4 maybe 5000 for a clean 60 ,000 mile car that would probably also go to 200,ooo miles would handle better and woul be just a get in and go no restoring of any thing but i do have to admit the light weight and part and i have to agree wth you on that though thnks Now does any one else hav anything to add in favor the 98 gts versus the 89 5.os

IT is really just a matter of your preference. 197K is a lot of miles but if you already have it I would just keep it and start thinking about how to make it better rather than blow a bunch of money on a new car.

Well you know it runs now. Therefore it should be a good rebuild. I agree with the comment about the car note. You could do a really nice rebuild, and be way better than having to tote the note on a new one.

I agree, especially with a '98, they still only made 225hp and was struggling to do that.
I have a Mustang mag around here somewhere that has an article in it where they dynoed a Fox 5.0, a 96-98 4.6 GT, and a '99 GT. The Fox even with high miles still made what it should at the rear wheels. The 99 was right on the mark, but the 96-98 car (think it was a 96) had an x-pipe a k&n and maybe something else I forget now, and it put down what it should've been making stock.
