You can thank Metallica for all this......them fightening with Napster...Well, I believe that if your on Broadband, Satellite or better than a dial-up server..your paying a good premium for service and the servers should have it set-up for you to download songs from them....This way the record companies get a cut and those servers get more people to register with them because of it...It would solve all this BS......Any reports you get on it, send a copy of the url if it's online.....

I don't think downloading is nessicarily illegal (may be wrong though.) What if you own a tape or CD that contained the song you Dl'd? I think that would be legal because you've paid for it already.

Anyway, I think this will all backfire for the RIAA. Either they get with the program or they die off like the dinosaur they are.

hopefully it backfires on them, but when you do download, apparently they are suing for 150,000 per song you have on your computer so basically what you can do is keep downloading and burn them all onto a cd or something to keep a backup...

if they ever did catch anyone of us they'd say pay up or delete all your mp3s...

what morons they are:roll:

haha the RIAA probably designed that software just so they could find IP adresses easier

My wife and I converted a lot of our CDs to MP3 format to put on our IPods. We own all the CDs anyway.

I still think it is funny that Metallicrap started this with Napster. Face it, their music sucks so much now, they probably need all the help they can get. If it isn't for frivolous lawsuits they'll probably be on the streets begging soon with MC Hammer and other assclowns that lost it all, because they thought they'd last forever.

Everytime I hear St. Anger on the radio, I pity anyone that hasn't heard Metallica from when they could actually play. They suck more now than a near dead Ozzy at Ozfest. Ozzy is walking dead, but he rocks more than Metallicrap.

We have been thinking about joining that applemusic site or one of the pay for your useage ones like Yahoo music. Face it, anything is better than a frivilous lawsuit and why buy the whole CD when you can have the songs you like for a fraction of the cost legally?

I think downloading music is fine as long as long as the songs are not used for profit. I know someone who got kicked off Napster when they found out he was a DJ and using the songs for his business

I guess ya shoulda taken your own advice Mike......

Try using Direct Connect or just FTP off someone you know, it's much safer. I also use a stream ripper program to copy streaming audio (like from internet radio sites) to my comp. F' paying for music, they make too much anyway.

I can believe they are trying to punish the individual user it has got to be the dumbest thing i have ever heard of. There are millions of users so the odds of them catching u are so slim its ridiculous. They should be going after Kazaa/napster etc. . Its like someone stealing a bunch of cars then going up to people and saying "if u sign this contract that says i cant get in trouble ill let u have a free car" then the cops arresting the person who got the free car instead of the person who is distributing them .

I read in PC Magazine that Kazaa was being used to propagate MyDoom. I got tired of the pop ups and spyware on Kazaa and switched to iTunes. I like it sooo much better as the songs are far better quality. Lately with Kazaa I was getting defective files alot. They had lots of static, incomplete, or only the first 30 seconds or so would burn onto a disc. And it's my folks' computer and they were worried about being sued.

I quit Dl'in a LONG time ago, anticipating stuff like this was gonna happen. I still love MP3's though. Whenever I buy a new CD, the first thing I do is rip the songs into MP3's, then set the CD on the shelf and only listen to the MP3's. I don't make my songs available however. I deleted all my sharing software a long time ago. The MP3's sound better too, because I've got my PC hooked up to the stereo and play 'em through Winamp with DFX turned on.

I never shared songs, just DL'ed 'em (damn dial-up!!) The songs I get from iTunes are much better quality than the ones I got through Kazaa, and the discs I make are better.

ok its simple if you are connected through a router and have a firewall they CANT track you. the reason those people where cought is because they donnected their computer drrectely to teh modem (assuming its high speed)

Yes, I know this thread has been dead for awhile now, but I just thought I would add my 2 cents. Kazaa users should get Kazaa Lite, same thing but it is a hacker version that doesn't have the spyware/adware stuff. Plus, the newer version claims that it blocks you from being caught, i don't know about that though.

I use WinMX for MP3s, I haven't found a bad song yet. Kazaa Lite comes in handy for Vids, and software.
