Ok, if you are to swap a V8 into a 4 cyl car what all do you need to do ?

Wiring harness, is it the same for both ? I know swap the ECM, the Speedo, tach and front springs.

But what else is needed ?

I am suppose to go to a dealer auction with a friend, and we're gonna either look for a 5.0 car (89-93)that the motor is trashed, but still has a good body and interior, or look for a donor body for my drivetrain, or find a car for me to get the interior out of, along with some other parts.

I'm hoping to run across a notchback for $500 or so. He said it isnt a rare thing to see. He also said the 5.0 cars, no matter f condition still go for more. So thats why I was asking about the swap from a 4cyl.

Let's see here....

fuel pump
fuel lines
driver's side wiring harness
front a-arms (The EFI V-8's front brakes are different or something like that.)
dual hump transmission crossmember

My 302 buddy just did this last year, so I kinda' remember what all there is to do!

My advice is to just get the 302 Pony in the first place!!!

i have a freind that did the same thing,... its so much easier to just buy a 5.0.

he changed the 302 to a carb
we did the fuel cell
fuel lines
rear end, you can use the 4 cyl springs up front but i suggest
getting 8 cyl out back
motor mounts, we used the 4cyl brakes up front and have had no problems...if your going w/efi you will need the comp&harness
the tach needs to be changed, we also used a tremec tranny,.. like i said its easier to just start with a 302 car unless you plan on using the 4cyl car for the strip where all the components will need to go.

My 87 used to be a 4 popper... It's better to start with a 5.0 built chassis(86 and later) if you want to stick with EFI. Otherwise, you'll have to change or add several parts. Couple that with the "upgrade" ideas you'll end up with, like brakes, and you'll quickly see the cost rising. For mine, it wasn't so bad, because I already had a 5.0 model to swap parts from.
