I have a question concerning cold air kits and what will fit my car. I have a 86 with a 92 engine and mass air. The different kits i am looking at say different years. Some say 86 to 89 some are 88-89 then 89 to 93. So is there a difference what one should i be looking at buying.

It would seem like the main difference would be the fuel injection type. I would go with the 89-93 just to be sure it would work best with mass air.

the 86-88 kits are for speed density cars, you need a 89-93 kit, as they are made for the mass air cars..

if i were you i would just upgrade to a k&n replacement filter for the box,... ive never seen a gain with cold air kits on 5.0's that were worth it. you can do the free ram air mod with an extra stock elbow dumping into the stock box through the corner light any how.

Well I usually call mine a cold air kit to save explaining it. But I have the March Ram Air Kit, but Im only using the box. It has a bigger opening than stock, and uses a 7" K&N cone. The reason I took the hose and bottom duct off, was because I got tired of cleaning leaves, bird feathers and gum wrappers out of my air box. It was working like a road vaccum.

what we do with the f/s class up here is use an identical rubber "elbow" run it through the corner light (while removed..lol) and it dumps right into the box,... can't say that its worth anything but it sure doesnt hurt.

I had a 12" or whatever size the large K&N filter is attached to my car... I went back to the panel filter and saw no gains or loses in ET.

Careful now, we all know the K&N sales pitch is very highly over rated, and to expect a power increase by changing the air filer is kinda unlikely. Just remember Slick 50, Prolong, and all the other bullshit products, oh yeah, the TURBO THINGY that you stick into your air intake, har har. My info is "toss the K&N", and I bought two of them, they're junk, and they let in waaaay too much dirt.
