My mustang pings badly around 4,000rpms on 91 octane. I have use fuel injector cleaner and airfilter is clean. Three months ago I had it serviced by a local dealer and since than I have had this problem. They said they adjusted the timing to 10* BTDC because that was factory. I heard from others that they put theres around 12* BTDC. I have also been told that ford ignition modules don't keep up to the revs and cause the ping. The engine produces normal power under a load untill it hits around 4100rpms then then this loud valve ping starts. I have tryed many different gas all the same. I don't want to damage the motor and fear to take it back to dumb asses at ford. Any advise. This car is completely stock with only a K&N FILTER
5.0L Cobra Engine.

My timing is at 14º with no ping. I wonder if someone had yours set past 14, and the service guy didnt remove the spout connector when he backed the timing back down ?

Wait, try some 92 or 93 octane, but I dont know if 1 point would make that much difference.

Have you thought about pulling the valve covers and making sure everything is okay under them? If you have a rocker or pushrod problem, you may find it if you take a look yourself. The dealer guys may not have had any reason to look when they serviced it.
