Actually you have to get a block with the reinforcing webs on the inside like this one has. See that nice thick angled web reinforcement running down to the main saddle? Gotta have those... Those are the only FE blocks with the thick enough and enough material on the inside of the block to machine and drill for the cross bolts. A lot of FE blocks will do the job but some of them will not.

You can always get a 391FT forged steel crank and machine it to fit as well.... or you can buy one of those Scat offereings from China.

Seems like it would be easier to buy an aftermarlet 427 sideoiler these days. Dove Machinery sells them, and now Keith Craft sells FE crate engines.

One of these days I'll have my own FE powered monster roaming the streets. I already know what its gonna go into as well.... It's gonna scare the piss out of the rice crowd with long tube headers, no cats and straight through mufflers.....

I say drop a 428 crank in a 427 sideoiler block, and ta daa, a 454 FE . Because the 428 had a bore of 4.13 and stroke of 3.98, where as the 427 had a 4.23 bore and 3.78 stroke.

If you're lucky enough to find a set, slap on some Tunnel Port or High riser heads, because lets face it, how many of us will ever own a cammer ? If you can't find those heads go with the Edelbrock versions with some porting, and a Performer RPM intake. Convert the old monster to a solid roller cam prolly in the 290º - 305º range, add a 850 or so Demon carb, big ole headers, and straight exahaust.

Might be fun
