I was thumbing through the news paper this morning when I came across an article about MTV's picks for the 22 best bands ever.

And the list as follows

22. REM

21. Van Halen

20. Limp Bizkit

19. Phish

18. Alice in Chains

17. Dave Matthews Band

16. Korn

15. Aerosmith

14. Oasis

13. The Cure

12. Nine Inch Nails

11. Smashing Pumpkins

10. No Doubt

9. Pearl Jam

8. Green Day

7. Red Hot Chilli Peppers

6. Linkin Park

5. Radiohead

4. U2

3. Guns 'N' Roses

2. Metallica

1. Nirvana

yeah, that list is worth jack crap in my book. Aerosmith got beat out by Linkin Park and Green Day? Not to mention the others from 6-14..... Korn and Limp Bizkit shouldn't be on there either. IMO, Van Halen should have been ranked a lot better than that too...

As for Nirvana, I'm not sure I would have excluded them (just because they did so much in so little time...I don't personally like them all that much) but I don't think I would have put them in the top 5.

rage against the machine should be on that list

@ Linkin Park & Limp Bizkit

A-men! Van Halen is probably the best band on that list(except Aerosmith) hands down. There are a few other good bands there, but MTV isn't even close to what it used to be back in the early days. Radiohead should be there for MTV's purposes though. Ah, when they were worth watching... And now they SUCK!

Oh yeah, NIRVANA? WTF were they thinking? Sure, they made changes to grunge rock, but rock in general has stunk up the world since they made it big, and to rate a band who's lead singer wrecked himself like K.C. did really speaks volumes for MTV's listeners and MTV in general...

That list BLOWS!

One of Kurt Cobain's last songs:

"I Hate Myself and Want to Die"

Posted by: 65fairlane

They were actually going to call their first cd "I hate myself and I want to die" back in 1989. It was kinda like a stupid inside joke, but they were affraid that kids would take it seriously. Kurt Cobain lived his life the same way aerosmith and the stones did it just got the best of him.

I think you should all watch the show again. While I will agree that MTV sucks, although all of us did watch this show so we must still watch some MTV, the show was the 22 greatest bands of the past two decades. Zepplin, Floyd, and all the other great bands mentioned didn't fall into that category.

While bands such as Linkin Park and the like do suck, the list is very accurate when you look and record sales and the fact that 90 % of you owned or listened to bands like Nirvana, RHCP, and Peral Jam. If you look at the solid hits the bands on the list have had throughout their careers and albums sold you would agree with the list. Not to mention that the average MTV audience knows little or nothing about Nirvana or RHCP let alone Van Halen. The target MTV audience was born around 1985, they didn't experience the greatness of many excluded bands. Van Halen should be thankful the made it to a list on MTV, whos target veiwer couldn't name three of their songs.

Fukk MTV, I don't watch that sh*t. The thread title doesn't say anything about past two decades. Fukk those trendy bands (most of them), give me Sabbath and Zeppelin!

My little brother was born in 1989, and guess who his favorite band is?! LED ZEPPELIN!!!! He's even decided to take up guitar because he's taken a liking to Jimmy Paige's riffs on their music. Bonzo's drummin' was partly the reason why I decided to play drums in the high school band. My brother's in the high school band as well. Led Zeppelin is still VERY popular around here, as well as Lynyrd Skynyrd.

My brother says the trashcan is the best place for most music you find nowadays, but he has taken a liking to some of ICP's stuff. I was born in '82, and also think most modern music is trash. I think we get it from our parents. They grew up in the 60's and 70's and played that era's stuff all the time when me and my brother were tykes all the way up through adolescence, and still do.

Brother and I also listen to A LOT of classical, symphonic music too. Our favorite piece of classical music is the '1812 Overture'.

if MTV were the only thing on tv I`d shoot my tv

I have a dislike for skynyrd based alone on the fact that no matter what kind of music you play if you are playing in a bar anywhere there is always a bald fat man in the back yelling play some skynyrd. Which wouldn't be so bad if these guys didn't always seem to think it was so clever as if they were the first to think of it. I know how to play a few of their songs, and I vow to never do it as long as there is the man yelling it.

TURN IT UP!!!!!

Hey, there are no Stones on that list either, and they have released stuff in the past two decades, not that i'm a huge fan, but I really think that list is BS........it might be right on whatever basis they used to rank.....but they shouda picked another basis..

N'Sync Rules

LOL, just kidding..........although they were good to dance to

Only band I would pay the big bucks to go see is KISS

oh yeah...........................lovin the Kiss music

Posted by: fjlaga

Just saw the show on MTV. The reason why bands like The Stones, LedZepplin,Beatles etc... are not on it is because it is for the past 22 years only. That kind of narrows down the field.
