Ok, I've been looking at some old 4 speeds. My Mustang isnt a highway cruiser anymore, I can drive the Ranger for mileage.

So I'm gonna swap in an old 4 speed.

I have a few questions .

One, will a T-10 Borg Warner thay was in a GM fit a Ford bellhousing that was made for a T-10 ?

Anybody have any measurments on a Ford Top Loader ?

I know this dont seem practical, but I know if those old boxes held up to big blocks, my little 302 is never gonna hurt one. Not to mention it is a helluva lot cheaper than a Tremec.

I have found a few GM T-10's out of 60's cars, just didnt know if it will mate to a 302 4 speed bellhousing.

Once I find out what will mate to what, all I gotta do is figure out shifter placement. If thats a go, the rest is downhill

well ummmm
if you have a scattershield then the fit is possible there are some problems with the t10 #1 being always leave you hand on the shifter when in 2nd (they will pop out when the thrust washers wear) #2 they are heavy what about a t5 they really are a good trans especially for a low po 302 and cheap also

Just found everything I need. It is a really easy swap with a Top Loader Ford. http://www.toploadertransmissions.com/install.html

They have been doing Top Loaders since 1968.

Cant wait to get started

Quote:
It is easy to install a Toploader 4-speed transmission in a 1979 up Mustang/Carpri. Use the Lakewood specially modified blowproof bellhousing #15201. We are distributors for the Lakewood and can supply these bellhousings. You can use your stock clutch cable, throw-out bearing, clutch fork, clutch & flywheel. Use Norman 690-033 bronze pilot bearing. This is available at most auto parts stores. We have new transmission mounts in stock.

Use a small block toploader transmission 24" long with a 28 spline output shaft, 8 hole case and wide ratio gears. First choice will be a transmission from a 1966 up Fairlane, Comet, or 66-67 Falcon. Second choice will be a 1965 to 1973 Mustang or 1967 to 1973 Cougar. Completely remanufactured toploader transmissions are available for immediate shipment.

For the shifter, we recommend and use the Hurst Competition Plus. We are distributors for Hurst, so we can supply the correct shifter and installation kit.

You need to make a small modification to the shifter handle. Follow the handle down until it starts to bend, draw a line, follow the handle up until it starts to bend draw a line. Cut at the lines, as you will be cutting out the curve. Weld the two straight pieces together. This will be the perfect fit in the stock floor board, boot, carpet and console. You will not see the weld.

This is an extremely easy job, that anyone can do. When you finish, you will have the best transmission money can buy and it will look like a perfect factory installation.

We have bellhousings, transmissions, mounts and shifters in stock at all times. If you have any questions, please call or write.

Thank you,

I dont have one, but I;m lookig for one. Preferribly what he listed there. Wide ratio gears, 8 bolt hole case, 24" with the 28 spline output. That is the same as my mustang, so my driveshaft will slide right back on. The inputs are the same too, 10 spline. So I can use my same clutch.

Anybody know where to find a 4 speed from a 1966 up Fairlane, Comet, or 66-67 Falcon ?
