Car stalling problem

Just came across this site and thought I'd ask for your help. My Automatic 97 Taurus starts fine (sometimes after a few seconds of cranking), but dies as soon as I put the gear in drive mode. The car runs fine in reverse gear. What could be the problem?

Might be a problem in the nuetral safety switch. Tough call though.
