Bellhousing Bolt patterns

Does anyone know if any older mopar engines used the same bellhousing pattern as the 92-02 Magnum V8's?

It is the same as the 273-360 smallblock V8 bolt pattern. I don't believe they made any changes to the bolt pattern when they made the revisions for the Magnum motors.

so an old style bellhousing will work?

If it is made for a 273, 318, 340, or 360 - or the 3.9 V6. A slant six or big block setup won't work. Mopars often have different bellhousings bolt patterns for different engines - although the manual trannies have detachable bellhousings. It may be annoying to swappers, but it was probably done to ensure any transmission you installed would be strong enough for the engine.

MSMATT, the reason I am asking is to find a bellhousing to run the T56 behind the Magnum 360 without paying $5K for the trans kit.

I don't think Mopar ever put the T56 behind any pre-Magnum engines. A Viper bellhousing might work - I can't remember if the bolt pattern is different from a 360 but my guess is it's the same. And if it isn't, there are quite a few machine shops that can make adapter plates and get you in way under $5,000. This same sort of stuff has been discussed on the slantsix.org forums - there isn't any factory bellhousing that helps, and the aftermarket has been so slow in catching on (there is a kit now, though)... that several members have had adapters custom made at reasonable prices.

I presently have a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport with 318 and 3 speed Auto
I would prefer to find a crate 318 engine from Mopar but it doesn't seem to be available.
Does anyone know of a new crate engine available and if so where? If not will the crate 360 work okay (hold up) with my present transmission and stock rear. Will I have to change motor mounts and what happens with the exaulst headers.
I would settle for a rebuilt engine but the new Mopar engine just appeals to me much more. Any suggestions on rebuilders will also be helpful.
Thanks,
Richard

How did the 360 work on some of your applications?

I am curently putting a 360 in a 318 car and was informed that they are close to mounting right in to stock 318 mounts. you might have to shim it a little with some washers, but nothing to extreme.

I have searched a bit but coming up empty handed. Anyone have a link to a thread discussing installing a t-56 to a 5.9L mag motor. i'm trying to stuff this into my 97' dakota

I am talking with some viper tuners trying to find out if the bolt pattern is remotely close or if it requires a ton of mods.

I tried the same thing the viper bell is way bigger than the regular bellhousing.Had to have a machine shop friend modify the small block bellhousing to work with the T56.Also keisler engineering sells the kits to put a T56 behind a small mopar they also sell the bellhousing sepertly i think for about $700 when i called them .
