last night, as i was racing a black ss, i got on it and my car seemed to be redlining, as well as my opponent, and after about 20 seconds...without any kinda noise other than me cussing my lungs out, my car had smoke coming out of the exhaust and my speedometer started to go crazy, the needle kept moving up and down......when i pulled over and opened my hood, smoke was just coming outta my engine.....everything in the engine bay was PERFECTLY fine(thank GOD!)...it wasnt oil getting burnt up...but as i took a whiff of the smoke, it smelt like transmission fluid.....when i looked under the car, tranny fluid was dripping all up onto my Y-pipe....so i called AAA and had a flatbed(thank god to that too) tow truck to come and bring my car home, seeing how it was about 8-8:30 at night and no auto shops were really open.....my car is now sitting in my garage with more than likely, NO tranny fluid left, seein how it all leaked out after this unfortunate incident of a race that i KNOW i woulda owned this guy......any suggestions on what could be the problem with my baby? i hate to see her beating herself up like this.......my buddies and i THINK i might have blown a gasket but we arent 100%....can someone PLEAAAASE lend me some advice.....it would be MUCH appreciated...

You should remove the tranny and open it, if it's not under warranty(do ya know for sure?). If it's not, open it and see what ya find. I know you could buy a book, tear it down and rebuild it if you have decent mechanical sense, but not everyone can do it. It sounds as if a gear actually broke though, so you'll want to pull it out. Besides, if all the fluid is out, the entire gearset may be bad now. If it's largely tinted blue(gears), it will likely whine badly if it's re-used. The bearings are probably shot too. Good luck.
EDIT: Now that I've read your sig and realize it's an automatic... Idonno why, but I was thinking 6speed. Woooops! Anyway, it may need a rebuild depending on the amount of fluid lost and the length of time you tried to drive it after that. The speedo gear may have come out, or broken. That would be a simple fix if nothing else went wrong.

I don't see how what you described could have hurt anything. I redline and then some all the time and have never had any issues. Mine shifts around 6200 and 5500 starts to redline even though most LS1's shift around 6000. It must be a freak thing.

im really not sure but i dont think the bearings woulda gotten messed up coz i didnt hear any kinda noise whenever the smoke was coming outta my car.....i just had the car dropped of at the Chevy dealership by my house, i know a couple of people there so hopefully they will be able to take care of me......i havent heard from them yet but the Master of Disaster(the tranny specialist) has yet to see this disaster..hehe.......i will update yall on what they find either today or tomorrow, depending on when they are able to take a look at the car......almost everyone i have talked to has said that it might just be a blown gasket or hose, but they arent 100% sure......
