Hey whats up guys. I need your help. Any input that you can give will be appreciated. Well yesterday when I turned on the camaro it started normal like it always does but then the radiator fan started blowing. Its 20 degrees outside so of course I figured something was wrong. Well after letting the car warm up for about 10 mins I noticed the fan was still blowing and my Temp gauge will not rise up. Actually it even goes down as if the car was cold as hell. Well the fan will not stop blowing at all even whiled driving and the needle stays at the bottom and will not move at all. I know the gauge works fine because if I turn the key to the electric position it moves and it goes back down. The car is running great, I think because of the fact that the engine must be cold as hell. But the fan is getting anoying. Could it be the thermostat? a sensor? Please help me, so I wont have to put my baby in the hands of the dealership evil doers.

Thanks.

It has to be warmer than what it is reading even if it reads low. If you have the stock 195* thermostat you will be running atleast around 200 with the fans running in cool weather! Could be a sensor or the temp gauge is messed up. I've never heard of this so I'm sorry I can't be of more help!

If its a sensor which one or which sensors could it be. I know there is one by the thermostat. Do you know where the temperature sensor is at?

my camaro was doing the same thing and i whent to a hot rod shop and they showed me a fan sensore that is mounted on the passenger side fender i changed it and no longer comes on when it whants and my temp guege now works agian

The newer camaro's pcm coding monitors engine coolant temp warm-up time and the ability to keep the coolant temp at the min t-stat 195deg rating. If the pcm sees a fault with either of these it can set a dtc. Then it will turn the cooling fan on and drive the coolant gauge to min coolant temp.

hey everybody.....i need some advice on some similiar issues....i have a 92 z-28 with a k and n filter that runs hot in spite of all i can do to keep it cool. new radiator, new hoses and clamps, new thermostat all installed since Thanksgiving....and it still runs hot at idle....well above 220 but not quite to the red.....then the harder i run it, the cooler it gets.........anybody have any idea what i should do? thanks chris

Is there a bunch of junk between the radiator and condenser? Lots of leaves grass etc?
Is the Air dam still in place?

This sounds like a sensor issue to me. I'm not sure what year Camaro you have, but a Chiltons (or similar) is always a good thing to have for referance. I would pull the codes on the ECM (if possible) and see if there are any problems. The reason I suspect the sensor is because the guage no longer works right (change in signal?), and the fans are continually going off (maybe temp sensor is reporting temps higher than the fan switch temp to the ECM). The temp guage should maintain the temperature of your thermostat in traffic (unless you live in very cold areas or something).

You need a fan switch. The car running cooler at higher speeds indicates the thermostat is opening and the radiator is getting good airflow. The problem is that your fans are turning on too late in traffic. By the time they start generating airflow, the temp is too high. Get a fan switch that matches the temperate of your thermostat. If both are stock, or you dont know what temp thermostat you have, I recommend changing both so that they can work in unison. I had your same problem with my IROC, now its maintains 180 all the time (even in traffic).
