EGR pipe removal

ok ive heard alot of mixed reviews about the er pipe that causes the dreded LT1 oil leak. that leak cost me a $900.00 clutch and i'm just wanting to seal it up for good. (well at least to stop oil:btg: ) but ok i have heard that you should take it off and block the spots on the exhaust manifold and intakemanifold (both on the passenger side) this seems like the best bet, but i'm also told since i have a 97 the ses light will light. i'm going to run a test run of this (i got a scaner so i can clear the code easily) and see if i get a code.

the other is wrap the pipe in heat tape or wrap. but ive also heard that its a bad idea cuz it will start a fire. seriousely i'm so confused right now. i am fixing the leak this wedensday either i am or have a shop do it if it seems to difficult for me and my limited tools.

any feed back would really help!
