Towing question..

I am going to be towing my stang behind the Budget Rent-a-truck all the way up to Chicago. My question is, if I get a tow dolly, will I have to disconnect the driveshaft? I did this on the Rex, because it had an AOD (Which is the biggest POS trans ever made) and I would cook it if It was left connected. This car has a world class T5 (manual 5spd). I am trying to save more than a hundred bucks by doing this.

Let me know...
THANKS GUYS..

Towing questions could be directed to the towing rental company. Don't know, but I'd think they would have experts on this.

good luck, P

They will only tell me that I need a full trailer, and can't use the dolly..More $$ for them that way.

Just kick it out of gear, and give 'er hell, Ken.

Is it an auto or 5 speed? I've been told, that on an auto, to start the motor and put it in neutral, and let it idle on the dolly, For long trips. supposed to better for the tranny...

the 5 speed will be fine with the car dolly

Yup. The 5-spd. will be fine, Ken.

Y'see...the reason why your auto tranny gets fucked when you don't remove the driveshaft, is because the tranny relies on the engine driven oil pump to lube the tranny, and since the innards are being spun without lube, that's why they get trashed. A manual tranny relies on the 'splash' method for lube so it'll be just fine.

2 speed powerglides are the only exception to this, AFAIK.
