I just finished swapping a used 2.2 cam into a 2.5 engine in my g/f's 91' dodge spirit yesterday. She was driving down the highway friday night when her camshaft broke in two.

The reason I went with a used 2.2 cam is because the engine has 250,000 miles, the missus was strapped for cash and I figger'd that with the roller-type followers in the 2.5, that the cam should be ok. Best fo all I also got it for free. Right now it seems to work fine except it sputters between 3500- 4000rpm at WOT.

I dunno if I the 2.2 bumpstick will flatten itself in the next few weeks, or if it'll be ok the way it is. She's happy with it now.

What do you guys think?

Hey, I don't want to jump into this thread and hijack it, or get in the way, but what do you guys like on your steak, A1 or Lea and Perron???

Okay, here's a legit answer: On those cam profiles, at least you could have measured the lift, right? Forget the timing, it would be pretty impossible. Just wondering about the lift, that's all.

Good luck with the swap.

If I'm not mistaken, the cams should be the same. A 2.5 is just a 2.2 with a different crank and rods...basic stroker motor.

can't use that cam in there. Where the cam rotates in the head is a different size. Get a 2.5 liter cam at a wrecking yard.

Lots of diffences between the two,
2.5 had balance shafts to help with vibartion.
The oiling in the had is a bit different from year to year.
You also have to look at the head see of OSJ or OJ is stamped on there, means you have to get cam from a head that had that. It means Over Sized Jornual bearing.
Let me know how you make out.

Did you use a flat tappet cam in a roller cam head? That would be a huge huge problem!

Mike, I'm pretty sure you'd slap me silly!

I have no fuckin clue if it what year, style or journal size that 2.2 cam is from.

All I know is that I put it in, torqued it down and drove it for 3 days without a hitch. Maybe I got lucky, and if I didn't, well........

I'm planning on building a new motor for her car in the near future anyways.

Just curious, but what happens when you use a solid cam in a roller head?

Posted by: LS1 Mopar Turbo

It breaks the cam...

Let me see what I have in the Garage.

Nothing that works on a 91 head...
