I just recently finished builiding my first engine and installing it in my car and starting it up. On initial start up it ran just fine but then a couple of days later it started popping out the top of the carb. I am running the MSD 6AL ignition box with MSD distributor and MSD 8.5 MM wires. The carb is a Holley 750cfm 03310-s (not a double pumper). The engine is a BB 454 bored +.60 with TRW forged pistons (L2399) speed pro rings gapped to .018. The crank is a scat9000 and the rods are stock, resized and fitted with 3/8 in. ARP wave-loc bolts. The intake is Edelbrock performer RPM and the cam is also the Edelbrock Performer RPM with lifters. It has a B&M 2600 stall and a TH350 tranny(that badly needs rebuilding or trashing). The only thing I can think is that its a fouled a spark plug or somehow the carb is running to lean or rich. If anybody can help me that would be freaking great.

Idle circuit sounds lean as hell to me. If it has idle screws, try running them all the way in, then backing them out the same # of turns it took to pinch them off. You may have picked up a little trash in it. Check your float levels in your bowls, too.

ive had that problemb before, but it was an edelbrock 600, took it apart and found that there was so much trash in there that it just about blocked off all fuel to the drivers side. needed to ribuild

it WAS a brand new holley......it is possible that there is come crap in there, but there should not be.....and the funny thing is that i have not messed with anything on the carb except the idle screw......its just baffling me......im hoping its just a fouled spark plug or something easy like that

Be sure wires on close fire cylinders are not touching, as induction can cause an ignition.

Well if its a brand new carb then i would definitly recheck my timing. You may be a tooth off. Also recheck your rocker arm adjustments, they may be to tight.

try re-adjusting your air-fuel.
Edit: Sorry, didnt realize how old this thread is...
