Who did the ridiculing? If it's a persisting problem, you may want to report it to the administrators....."The Pit" can get hairy, but if it's something else like Email or what not...Then let Evil or Mike know....

it was in the thread marked HELLO!!! My motor is in pieces I am trying to get everything I need to rebuild it. just because my signature has a few mods it just doesnt mean that my motor is just gonna have whats listed theres more to it but it takes time alot of money. Whatcha talkin bout?

Posted by: Grape Ape

My question is what she's talkin' bout! I meant no harm at all, but that's not how she took it. Hopefully nobody will actually get rude with her.

Posted by: MikeT

Methinks it was a minor misunderstanding.

Posted by: Grape Ape

That's all it was. I think it's fine now.

And in this case, what exactly was my predisposed position? If you're going to act a moron or baselessly call names, be prepared to explain your ignorant comments.

I suggest we simply move along peacefully.

funny how everyone is ignorant or a moron except for you. For the record i was just busting your balls. If it wasn't for guys like you, people wouldnt post a couple of times and then leave...

thats cool thats all it was...I thought I was being ridiculed for being a woman.
The other day I walked up into Napa to pick up my gasket kit for my motor dude asked me what type of motor did I have. I told 3 fricken times I had a 350 small block dude asked me "are you sure it's a 350 small block and not a 305?" I was so flamed. I finally went off on him I told him" I want to speak with a Supervisor" he said ok! the supervisor came out and asks is there a problem ma'am I said yes you need to hire people that know wtf. is going on!
I said your employee here is trying to make me look like an ass and that I have no clue what I am talking about! Supervisor asks what do you need? I said I need a gasket kit for a 350 small block! In less than a split second I had my gasket kit! lmao I was so flamed I was going off on the clerk I caused the biggest seen in Napa my best friend was laughing so hard she pissed on her self the store was busy. The moral of the story is I maybe female but I do know enough to get me by. I am very sorry that I took it all outta context.
I really do apologize guys thats my bad!

thats aight sweetie you're still cool in my book

Posted by: Grape Ape

Thank you.

Did they bother telling you the reason he asked if you're sure was because GM didn't use a 350 in an 86 F-body? I'd bet that was his reasoning.

There is usualy one guy that actually knows his shit, The store I work at luckily has four.

Posted by: LS1JAY

A LOT of people think that the old 305's were 350's! Part store guys are stupid for stuff like that. '86 would have been a 305 TBI.

Posted by: 65fairlane

I was at autozone one day attempting to price a gasket set for a 351w and it was made more complicated than it should have been due to the fact that it was sitting in my garage and I am not 100% sure of the year and model it came out of. I was like "Lets just for arguments sake say it was a torino ellite" (I think it was?). And he kept trying to search for it in mustang listings.

Posted by: 84camaro_z28

every time i go to a differnt parts store than the one i normaly frequent, they try to tell me that my year camaro only came with a 305. even when they finally get it that i have a 350, i have to go back because they gave the parts for the 305. it gets rather annoying esp. when i have to go all the way across town to another store because no other stores closer have the part that i am looking for. it always seems to be the store farthest from me also.

Posted by: Grape Ape

I was asked today for 2 ignition module ignitors for a NISSAN(like I'd have that in my garage, right?) and said, "AutoZone might have this." The reply was, "I've already been there and they say it's not made anymore or they never had availability at all." So naturally, I called them and asked for it. They gave me the same initial response, so I gave them some coaching as to HOW to look it up. Soon, they'd found the items and quoted prices... Until I told them what it was AND where to locate it in the catalogs, they'd never even heard of such a thing.

$87.99 each and they don't have people trained well enough to even look them up in a catalog! That's so sad it's ridiculous.

I sometimes laugh at the inability of "professionals" to look up a part, simple or not. Gaskets for a 350 is a good example, and for a 351W is yet another. Sure, it's best to have a year and model to give them, but geez, if I tell you it's a 350 or 351W, you should already have an idea of what to do next. The 305/350 thing is funny too. If you think those two are the same, you need only to remove the cylinder heads from each engine to note the instantly obvious differences. And that's only if you haven't noticed those on the outside of an engine.

If you know the engine doesn't match the vehicle, MOVE ALONG!! Break out a friggin' BOOK for cryin' out loud!

yes I am very aware of this! The guy that I bought it from used the motor for auto cross. his dad told me that the motor only has 40,000 miles on it ( rebuilt). and I just dropped into my car. but I am planning on replacing all the little important goodies on this. Now I told this guy I was dropping a 350 small block into an 1986 T/A and thats where the argument started. Cause he said I didnt think it was possible to put a 350 S/B in it. I said look I just took it out of a T/A and I want to replace my gaskets. he kept finding all these dumb excuses. I spoke with the supervisior and he handle everything pretty well he knew exactly what I needed! I hate people trying to make me look stupid! I can do that on my own without a dumb ass clerk doing it!

man I can never seem to find that guy then.

I was looking for a floor/garage jack since both mine took dumps pretty much at the same time and I didn't want to rebuild them. (got a ton of use out of them tho) I called Autozone which is several miles away and asked the guy to check a price for me on one. Me: Hey bud can you check out a price for me on a jack? Him: Sure Me: Thanks, I need a price on the big one, the one that stays in your garage, not the one that comes in a plastic box you tote around in your car. Him: Okay just a sec. - A few minutes later he returns Him: okay its $17.99 Me: No you got the wrong one, I mean the one with the 1 1/2" diameter handle and is about 4 1/2' long, that doesn't come out. You know, the Big Floor jacks. Him: Listen dude, I know what I'm talking about. Me: hmm... okay - I hang up and debate going up there then realize I need to grab a few sensors anyway. I go in and look for the jack and find what I am looking for but there is no price on it. I then see the guy I think I talked to and asked if it was him... and he said yea. Me: Can you show me the jack you got the price on? Him: sure its down this isle. - I follow him down the isle, he gets to the end and looks up and points at the type of jack that I told him I was not looking for. (you know, the little one in the plastic box you carry in your trunk). I look down and ask, How much is that one? He looks at me funny... Him: someone must have put that there since I talked to you. Me: Can you get me a price on it for me? Him: Sure, one sec. Him: $89.99 - I smile blankly... Me: A pretty big difference from $17.99 huh... Him: Yea, anything else I can do for you? ........

I asked the other guy for the sensors.

One way to combat that, is look at Autozone's website and see if you can get the part numbers through there catalog, but half the time it's down.....If more auto parts places decided to list there inventory online or have a computer set-up in the store for consumers to use, it would cut the headaches of trying to receive the right part drastically......They sure aren't going to pay be bucks to a counter person who has many years of auto parts know how....

Actually, I plan to ditch the ford and buy a GM then I won't have to go to the parts store anymore.

The thing I can't figure out is, why the fuck didn't the idiot stick at the counter realize that there's NO difference between a 350 and a 305 gasket kit! They pretty much make those SBC kits interchangable anyways unless your block's got a 1-piece rear main and 87 or newer heads!

I get it, STRAIGHT to the JUNKYARD instead, eh?

I always have trouble with my bronco. It has a 460 in it and a bunch of other HD doner parts that make it up. The other day all I needed was a thermostat and all I got was a bunch of static from the clerk because broncos dont have 460s and I didnt know what it came out of.

Then yesterday my friend with a 63 falcon lost his brake lights, he brought it to me and it ended up being the hydraulic switch. We went to advance and the lady i got was so clueless that we talked her leting us look it up on her computer. We found it after about 2 minutes on a system that we had never even used before. all we did was use a little...........................GASP......................COMMON SENSE.

Anyway part stores frustrate me, Thanks for letting me vent about it.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Advance's parts lookup basically sucks from what I've seen. Then again, the only one I think is worth using is NAPA's "T.A.M.S." because it has an astonishing number of parts listed. I learned to use it some years ago and probably would be really lost today, but I liked it. Once it's learned, there's few vehicles(on road types) you can't find parts for with it, including several for large trucks.

Side note: When you have an engine you aren't sure about, at least try to know the year model. Then pick a vehicle that it was used in and simply tell the parts people that's the vehicle. It surely makes them not have to think and thereby, makes your life easier at the moment.

The old 351W's (I think it was 69-72 or 73) had 8 bolts per side on the intake, where as the newer ones have 6 per side. You can use the older gaskets on newer engines, but obviously you'd have to cut holes in newer gaskets on the old style.

By they way, look around the area of the starter, you should see the block codes. The first two charecters will be a letter followed by a number. For instance mine is "C9" . C = decade, the 60's in this case, and the 9 makes it '69 .

The number will look like D1AZ-6010-B .
D1= 1971
A = Full Size Fords, like a Galaxie
A=Full size Fords
F=Pinto, Maverick,Falcon
L=Lincoln Mark IV
M=Mercury
O=Fairlane
R=Capri
S=Thunderbird
T=Truck
V=Lincoln
Z=Mustang, or Mustang II

Z= just a type identifier, an X there means muscle part
6010= That its a block
B= Revision code, B means this is the 2nd version of the block.

Most of the people that the store I work at are only there so they can get a discount on parts for their race car (my self included). So most of the guys at my store know there shit.
