anyone know what I need to do before changing the fuel filter on my 1999 chevy astro van?

You need the relieve the fuel pressure. There a hard way on the van and a couple easy ways. The hard way. Remove engine cover and depress the fuel pressure test port valve core. The easy way clean. Get van I working position. Allow van to sit for 2 hrs. Then just crack the fuel line at the filter.This allows the fuel system to drop pressure on its own. There will still be some but none like after key off. Easy way messy: Shut Van off. crack open the fuel line fitting at the filter. Be ready for fuel to spray every where!!!.
Note: ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES AT ALL TIMES WHEN SERVICING THE FUEL SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!

thank you..... could i just clamp the fuel line so i doesn't spray every where?

yes, you can buy hose clamp tools at a parts store someplace.

On the astro I do not remeber there bieng a rubber line between the pump and filter.
There is a plastic line at the tank DO NOT CRIMP THIS LINE IT WILL BREAK!!!!!!
