...the trans is broke. not badly...yet. however, it is a very bad problem. the automatic trans uses a planetary gear set. turns out teh ring gears for the planetary set are
cracked which is what is causing the excessive vibration. now teh ring gears are the important part because they are what locates the whole gearing system in the trans and
they can tear the casing apart. so rebuilding it is a complete waste of time. so they are gonna drop a trans from a 97 T-bird in (new, not used) and a new PCM (computer
that controls the trans. it sounds like a lame excuse but these transmissions from these cars are like a completely different design. also, since the only cars that uses these
transmissions are MN12 chassied cars, the cost of the parts to rebuild them make it prohibitivly expensive. its actually cheaper to put a new transmission in. the clicking
was the torque converter. it is probably what caused the rings gears to go bad. they said that there were stress marks on the outside of teh converter where it looks as if
some of the vanes inside the converter decided to divorce the rest of the converter and liberate themselves violently. so they were rattling around inside the converter and
causing an unbalaced problem thing goin on. like those technical terms, don'tcha! anyway, i asked him what would have caused it to go bad at 75K miles on the odo. he
said abuse. but then, before i could tell him that the car has not been abused even in the slightest he said that there were no other signs of abuse anywhere on the trans. then
he said, hell, there are no signs of abuse on the car, period. then he said it looks like the converter was faulty but they can't directly pinpoint the cause of the damage to the
converter. however, since the part was determined faulty they are not charging me for teh converter. which is nice. that saves me about 300 bucks. but i gotta pay for labor
which is resonable and a minimal charge considering they are pulling teh entire trans and replacing it. so all totaled, it comes to $2259.00 plus tax and 34 bucks for
checking out the braking system. which there isn't really anything wrong with he said. he said it had more wear than was expected in 6 months but it also has high mileage
for a 6 month period so i'm actually ahead of teh game i guess.
you know, shit happens. i can accept that but why does it seem that shit only happens to me? i know a bunch people who drive thier cars and don't take care of them at all.
they have no problems. i do my damnedest to taked care of my vehicles all i get are problems. why?
