Well it's a 96 Grand Am, same shit different pile.
Is there a way to clear codes in the computer? I removed the battery cable for a while and it's still there.
The SES lite came on yesterday halfway home from a 2 hour trip. Took it in to get the code read and they're saying it's a computer/sensor or some useless piece inside the trans. that needs replacing. FUCK ME, i've had it with all this new computer shit.
It's a 3.1 auto.

I dunno about a Grand Am but here's how to reset the computer on an FBody. Maybe its the same?

1) Turn the key in the most forward position without starting the car.
2) Pull PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuses in the engine compartment.
3) Wait a few minutes.
4) Turn the ignition off.
5) Replace the fuses.

Is that not the same as removing the batt. cables?

Thanks Evil, I stopped in at an old friends shop that i forgot about and he used his diagnostic thingy to check it again and reset things.
So far no SES lite on the trip home. I wonder if it'll maybe come back on at hiway speeds? Aw well it's parked now. Time to sell that junker.

If its a shift solenoid that your talking about then it can be removed and cleaned. What happens usually is the shift solenoid will get gummed up or just a small piece of debrie in it and it will stick causing a code.
