a top ten for best topics on the front page....?

[quote:9170b8aa13="EvilLS1"]No way to select the "best topics" from the database since the board software doesn't have an opinion. [/quote:9170b8aa13]

Well that sucks.......

[quote:4c836d9d72="EvilLS1"]It would be possible to put the most popular topics on the main page (the ones with the most replies), but that would probably be some stupid "reload.. reload.." shit that nobody wants to see anyway. [/quote:4c836d9d72]

I was thinking more along the lines of good debating topics....

Only problem is, there's no way to make the software know which topics that would be.[/quote:4709f1a576]

Simple, you post the ones you think are the best for a month and then change them or so every month..sort of like babe of the month or car of the month...It keeps the good debates going and ends the bad ones...

[quote:fb482398d3="EvilLS1"]Haha.. Yeah, I could do that.. But its a whole lot easier to add stuff that can be done automatically with php. I'm trying to make this site low maintanance and automated.. Gives me more time to enjoy the site myself. [/quote:fb482398d3]

Well, could a hack be used in a way for you to be able to click on it and send it to the front page...what I'm getting at, if new people come in, they can pick and see the good debating topics right off the bat, without just looking at the Pit and deciding the board sucks.....Just an idea...... 8)

[quote:7805547eaf="EvilLS1"]That could be done.. I could create a hidden forum that only mods and admins can view, and then when a mod or admin see's a topic thats interresting, they could move a copy of it to that forum. I could then use the same script that pulls the site news from the announcements forum to post them on the main page. Atleast I think this can be done. I'll look into it.[/quote:7805547eaf]

Yeah like that!! IMHO I think it would be cool and may help out with new members...

[quote:3ea1702914="EvilLS1"]Hmm.. Now that I think about it, this forum doesn't allow you to move a "copy" of a thread to another forum.. It just moves the thread. The only way to do it would be to move the thread to the hidden forum, so that wouldn't work because then nobody would be able to see the thread anymore. Plus, the script would link them to the thread in the hidden forum, not the thread in the original forum which is still active.[/quote:3ea1702914]

Well, how does the front pages recent topic section get linked? Don't go through alot of trouble over it and crash the board..I just thought it would help out....Just a new approach....

I see now what your saying it was a shot.....Another suggestion also along these lines for the tech forum is, how about letting posters know how many unanswered tech questions there is in the tech forums? Example would be some sort of display for the forum index....It seems it takes awhile for anyone to reply, because most of the time they go straight to the PIT....

[quote:305a958d00="EvilLS1"]There's already a "view unanswered posts" link at the top of the forum, but it shows unanswered posts in all forums. I could possibly do a hack to make it show only unanswered posts in the tech forums. I'll look into it later.. Gotta hit the sack right now.

Well, that's all the work I can find for you now.... later...
