Sorry for the pics being crappy, my camera sucks.

This one here is my 1944 model 1944 mosin nagant carbine. Chambered in 7.62x54r. At 113 years old its the oldest military cartridge still in service. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it huh?

and with the side folding bayonette fixed in place

you can see the accesories that came with it. Including the sling, ammo pouch and oil bottle. Thats not a bad deal for $50 eh?

This gun is the epitome of simplicity. Anyone can be taught to completly dissasemble and reassemble the rifle in about 5 minutes. Like all russian guns its simple, somewhat crude, easy to produce yet dead reliable. Originally based on the model 1891 this gun is basically just a shortened version of the later model 1891/30 rifle. Wartime production (1941-1945) topped over 5 million. After wwII russia switched to the SKS and sold the tooling to several differnet countries including china and romania. Finland even produced mosin nagants and theirs are considered to be the best made of the mosin nagant rifles. Several models of the mosin nagant rifles can be seen in the movie "Enemy at the Gates."

This next piece is a Yugoslav Mauser model 24/47 (also made in 1944) chambered in 8x57. Based on the venerable german model 98 but with a slightly shorter action. Production of these began in 1924 by Fabrique National of Belguim for Yugoslavia. The later models (like mine) were produced in Yugoslavia.

you can see in the picture the ammo pouch, bayonette, leather sling and a bandoleer of 1942 turk 8mm ammo. I paid $109 for the rifle and accesories and $29 for 700 rounds of ammo.

In 1947 the model 24 rifles were rearsenaled with new stocks and often new barrels. Hence, model 24/47. Being of german design its not surprising the enginerring and crafsmanship of these rifles. The slavs may not have been able to make a car worth a damn, but they cranked out some fine guns. The machine work on this one is very good for a wartime production. Most rifles made during WWII where cranked out as fast as possible and lack fit and finish. However thats not true of the yugo 24/47's.

This is my favorite rifle, so far. Its well balanced, compfortable, and far more accurate than I am. Plus its really in excellent shape. Also, the 8mm round is powerful enough for hunting just about any big game in the US.

Lastly, but not least is my latest acquisition. A Yugoslav SKS model 59/66 chambered in 7.62x39.

in the picture you can see the accesories it came with. Sling, ammo pouch, oilbottle w/ leather case and a cleaning kit. All for $89. This particular gun isn't in as good of shape as my others. There is a little more wear on it and the stock has a few dings, but the bore is mirror bright.

These were made between 1966 to about 1978. Its another russian design slightly improved by the the Slavs. The model 59/66's are made from all machined parts unlike thier russian, romanian and chinese counterparts who use some stamped parts. The 59/66's have some interseting features. They come with an underfolding bayonette, muzzelbrake/grenade launcher and have folding low light sights.

In this pic you can see the folding low light sights. (the white dot sights)

In this one you can see the sight for the grenade launcher, also the dot sights are in the down position here.

again, sorry for the crappiness of the pictures.

Thats my collection of military surplus rifles so far. There are dozens more I'd like to add but money dosen't grow on trees. Given the low price of alot of surplus rifles its a great hobby. Not only can you get cheap guns that are a ton of fun to shoot. You get something with history and charactor that more modern guns are lacking. Not to mention they make good cheap hunting rifles.

Later this year I plan to go deer hunting. Due to the relativly short range hunting in florida I'll probibly take the SKS. If I ever hunt somewhere where you can actually see more than 100yards through the brush I'll use the mauser. If its not to much overkill.

Sweet Dude!!!! I feel inspired to go buy another rifle!!!!

The one I have right now you could probably tell me more about it than I can. From what im told its an M38 made in italy. The rounds are 138 grain 7.62x54 carcano. Its bolt action and takes 6 round clips that insert from the top. After you bust all 6 the clip falls out of the bottom and you can reuse it. Ill post a pic of it on monday to see if you can tell me anything about it. NICE GUNS BY THE BY

What others are you planning to get?

well, for starters I'd like to get a mosin nagant model 1938 and a 91/30 as well as a 1891. Although there are literally dozens and dozens of different models made in differnet countires and different factories that would round out my collection somewhat.

I'd like to get a sweede mauser in 6.5x55, a Persian mauser in 8mm as well as a Chezch 98/22 mauser.

One of these as well http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/...5Swiss_Cal_.htm

Then of course there are the enfields, but for some reason I don't desire them as much as the mosins and mausers. Maybe because they are ugly as hell.

And no collection is complete without some springfields. I'd probibly start with an 03a3.

I'd also really like an old model 97 trenchgun. Cause a shotgun w/ a bayonette is just badass.

Almost forgot the m1 garand too.

I can only afford to buy about 1 gun a month, which sucks cause there are literally hundereds of C&R surplus guns to collect. Right now I'm sticking with the cheaper ones that have cheap ammo available.

Also, I do like newer guns as well. I'd love to own a FAL, but I really can't afford one. Hopefully later this year I'll build me an AK, they can me made/bought for as little as $250.
