Nice history about Shelby and Ford 289, 427, and 428

Of course everyone here knows the 427 was the expensive solid lifter racing motor, and the 428 Cobra Jet was a smaller bore longer stroke hydraulic version with 2-bolt mains. It was, however, still able to sweep the Winternationals, heh heh. Here is an interesting history about the Cobra, and Shelby Mustang series, for your reading enjoyment.

Yeah, nothing like a lightweight big block casting, super rigid design, cross bolted mains, good flowing heads, and solid lifters, whoooo Hooooooo!

I saw one a week or so ago in a '57 T-Bird and it was tooo frigging cool. The guy said it was putting out 600-hp, but looking at it and listening to it, with a single card and semi high rise dual plane intake, I would guess it was more like 450, but still, one hell of a 6000-rpm smile on your face!

Ford didn't install any 427's in the shelby Mustangs, per Ford. The big blocks were 428 only
