My family had a pet alligator once. I was only about 15. My younger brother caught a 3'+ gator while bass fishing. He took some line off his reel, and tied the mouth shut. We weren't old enough to drive, so he balanced the gator on the handlebars of his bicycle, and rode home (a little over a mile).
When mom got home from work, she told us to bring it back where we found it.
We were living in SE Florida, btw.
