Just had my first outing with the new BFG DR's and I am having trouble. I am still cutting 2.0 60's help please.

I went to the track Sunday at a low turn out event, about 30 cars. I arrived at the track went thru tech and then aired the tires down to 25psi. I did the 25psi setting only for the first run, due to the fact that I wanted a good long burnout. I entered the water box (for the first time ) and proceeded to do about a 10 second burnout. I then staged. Across from me was a brand new viper owner that had never been to the track before. So I was like I should do O.K. Anyways the tree comes down and we both leave I notice a little better pull and that the 1-2 shift is hard with out the usual tire "Chirp". The result was a 13.000@108.77 with a 60' of 2.00 to the Vipers 13.85@111.45. The 60' times never got any better .
I ended up airing the tires down to 17psi without any better results.
So ...

You're not doing your burnout IN the water box, are you? If so, don't do that next time. It slings water up inside your wheel well which will drip back onto your tires and the track.

With drag radials ya don't wanna lower the pressure too much 'cause the contact patch will be smaller. Start out at about 22-24 psi and drop it down to a minimum of 18 psi only if you can't hook. Pull around the waterbox and back your rear tires into it. Blip the throttle to give it just one quick spin so that the tire gets wet all the way around. Now pull back out a few feet in front of the water box to do your burnout. Break 'em loose and then lightly hold your brake. Count off about 6 seconds or just keep an eye on your rearview until you see smoke then let off the brake and ride it out. Using that method I was getting low 1.6 60' times on Nittos. Of coarse if the track isn't prepped worth a shit you won't get good 60' times regardless of how you do your burnout.

Good luck with it!

I was wondering about the water carry-over. Everyone was going thru the water box, even 15 second 1977 Corvette's. I was thinking that this may effect the traction some.

So try to stay around 22psi O.K. have that noted. Now next question. I did a couple of burnouts and the rear end started to move around on me. Should I let off the brake and gas an roll out and stage when this happens? When this happend I had only minor smoke and the time period was about 3 seconds.

Try breaking them loose with more throttle and keep it at a higher RPM during the burnout and you shouldn't have that problem anymore.

I used to run 20#'s in my BFG's and 25#'s in my Nitto's. Sometimes it's just the track and the fact that it's not properly prepped.

Yeah, Us Ohio people are a little heat sensitive... The Temp actually hit 92 before the evening cool down started.

Got to the track last night and the results are improving. I now am able to get consistant 1.95's and better. I manged a few high 1.8's. The track was hooking great with the tires aired to 25psi. I am sure that 1.7's are able to be run, I just need to figure out the launch attributes of the BFG Dr's. I am happy with the new rubber. I went from runnig anywhere from 13.1's to 13.3's on street tires to 12.9's and 13.0's on the Dr's with better times to come.

I went around the water box and backed into the ba all night and this helped alot I believe. On one run I backed into the box and before I heated u the tires a track official cam over and motioned for me to rool down the window. I did and he said "Brother that water isnt going to hurt the front tires" I just agreed and went on with the buisness at hand.

1.8s are pretty damn good for a 6 speed on drag radials! Congrats man!

Ah, he's just trying to speed things along. Think about it though, if all cars roll the front tires through the waterbox it will leave a trail of water all the way to the staging area. Not only does it hurt your traction, but everyone elses too. Thats why I never go to the track on Friday nights anymore. Bunch of damn ricers dragging water all over the staging area and its almost impossible to hook.

Anyway, nice times!
