It's sad that even with all that, we still don't have a better choice for president.

Well, Tang, if it makes you feel any better, at least half of those quotes had been previously circulating on a list of things Dan Quayle said. They don't call the Internet the Misinformation Superhighway for nothing.

How about a fresh one from this week?

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
- George W. Bush (AT THE SIGNING OF H.R. 4613, THE DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2005)

Do you really belive all that you read Kennis? C'mon, things seem pretty good to me. I'm making more than I ever have!

Posted by: Tang

Maybe so Jay, but Florida is a pretty upscale place. Come to small town NC where there are NO jobs left. They all went to grand ole mexico. So since GW speaks better spanish than he does english, fuck him, let him go live in Mexico, and take all his illegal immigrants back with him.

Posted by: 3SuperSports

I think it was Clinton that made things better for Canada and Mexico, wasn't it?

Check out some of your Heinz products.'Sen. John Kerry keeps talking about U.S.corporations leaving this country and setting up shop in foreign countries, taking thousands of jobs with them.

He is right, because that has happened.

However, he is trying to blame it on George W. Bush. As far as I know,Bush has not moved one factory out of this country because he is not the owner of a single factory.

That cannot be said about Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz-Kerry.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Kerrys own 32 factories in Europe and 18 in Asia and the Pacific. In addition, their company, the Heinz Company, leases four factories in Europe and four in Asia. Also, they own 27 factories in North America, some of which are in Mexico and the Caribbean.

I wonder how many hundreds of American workers lost their jobs when these plants relocated to foreign countries. I also wonder if the workers
in Mexico and Asia are paid the same wages and benefits as workers in the United States.

Of course they're not.

However, Kerry demands that other companies that relocate should pay the same benefits they did in the U.S.

Why does he not demand this of the Heinz Company, since he is married to the owner?

If Kerry is elected, will he and his wife close all those foreign factories and bring all those jobs back to America?

Of course they won't.

They're making millions off that cheap labor.

Kennis, things have been "not so good" in those small towns in NC for years. Way before Bush was in office.

Posted by: MikeT

we need a president who will take a strong stance against illegal immigration. Unfortunatly neither of them has done so.

"We're going to have the best educated American people in the world."

The people in the USA aren't the only "American People". Canadians, Mexicans, Brazillians, etc. are all "American People"

Quite a few years ago, I read the same type of list about Dan Quayle (sp?). This line must have been stolen from that list, because according to that list, it was Danny that said it:

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

If I own a factory and can make more money in a foreign country than the US, it is pretty much a no brainer isn't it? Wasn't someone in this very thread talking about how much they make now, and someone else talking about how hard it is to earn a living? It's pure hypocrisy to worry about your own wallet and think companies don't have the right to worry about theirs.

And besides, I've been around the world. Everyone everywhere is pretty much the same. They all want to do the best they can for their families, friends, and whatnot. Governments are what fuck up everything. It's not some factory worker in China or Mexico fucking the world up. It's the governments, their petty differences, the raving lunatic terrorists, and whatnot. Politics fuck up the world, not workers in foreign countries. Nationalism is just a sick disease injected into society by governments run by imbeciles that can't think of anything other than their own greed and lust for power.

GW is a freakin' moron. Kerry is a freakin' moron of a different sort. Honestly, why should anyone even give a shit? The difference between the two and the effect it will have on your life is miniscule. Neither one of them can make your life any better. Only you can do that. Stop waiting for some moron to fix the ills of society, because it absolutely positively will not happen. Neither one of them could tear a hole in a wet paper bag with a fresh razor blade, much less fix the economy, create jobs, stop terrorists, or anything else of any importance. They can tax the shit out of you and that's about it.

I agree with that entire statement except for two words: stop terrorists

GW has taken many effective steps to stop terrorism. Kerry has stated for the record that he believes that terrorism is a law enforcement problem... so instead of GW taking out terrorist cells in other countries, we would have Kerry assigning the local law enforcement to find the terrorists and stopping them after they are already on american soil...

Posted by: MikeT

Agreeing w/ svo here.

Posted by: Geargrabber

I'll you all exactly how good we are at stopping terrorists as soon as my friend gets back from Iraq. She would tell me on the phone or in a letter but the government censors everything the GI's say.

BTW- If any of you saw the cover of the NY times about a month ago with the bodybag being carried down a flight of stairs in Iraq that was my best friends hand on the right, carrying a soldier out of the MP checkpoint that was bombed. Close call, wish her luck please.

Ok... the economy is moving and moving fast. Over 350k new jobs in the first quarter (beating all expectations) and Feds (Alan Greenspan) just stated the economy is completely back on track. The U.S. ecomony has had a greater growth in the past 4 quarters than any four consecutive quarters in 20 years. In other words since Reagan(R).

In the past 3 years there have been more first time home buyers in the U.S. than at any other time in our history(3 million in 3 years). The American dream fufilled 3 million times.

....um, small towns are hit hard, but kennis I found a job pretty damn easy, as a matter of fact all of my friends have found jobs pretty damn easy and most of them live in Elkin which is smaller than mayberry/cana. I find that lots of times people are to busy bitching about no jobs because they are A) Too Lazy to work to earn a check B)Too Lazy to actually look, thinking it is gonna find them

Yes, it sucks that all the mills shut down, BUT look how many new places have opened up in the area. Hell, ASMO is not only making power window motors, we also are making the pinch sensors for Honda, and we are slated to get to new products(One for Toyota) within the next 2 years....

Jobs are there if you look.... but that is just my 2 cents

shit, i live in a small town, and i have people beating my door down with work for me. maybe the prople that are having a hard time getting work should have gotten an education other than HS? (or go to college for a reason other than cunts) either way, don't go beating me down saying how my mommy paid for post-highschool education, cause i paid every dime for my A.S. degree AND still found $$$ for the IROCs parts. and most of this was in the so called "depression" after 9-11

I can relate, I took a factory job because it pays good and the benefits are awesome, but they told me I was too smart for the job, but that i am a leader so they want me. ASMO is a team work place and they are already telling me that I am a favorite for a management position when one opens.... you can't beat that, hell i can finish school with night classes

Posted by: LS1JAY

There's no problem finding work around here at all. My problem is I can't find people who actually want to work! Most of them are lazy bums, and 8 out of 10 who call about a job and are told to come in never even show up! Why do they even call? Probably to do their weekly job hunt that is required in order to recieve their un-employment check! I go through roofers like a hot knife through butter! Most people don't want to work for a living. It makes me sick! Heck, I have to work, why can't they? And then they think I'm rich because I have a home, truck and a small 14' bass boat. If they would work they could have it too!

Maybe you should consider not sniffing it then?

Posted by: MikeT

How much you payin ?

Posted by: LS1JAY

Well.... Depending on experience, usually $8 for a laborer... and up to $13 per hour for a good roofer. I guess the average is about $10 per hr. Sometimes I pay by the square and give them $13 per square. A good roofer can lay about 3 sq per hr, so that works out to be about $40 per hr.

Yeah, Me a leader... as in Prez of the Business club at Surry, VP of the student body at Surry, Western Region(of State) VP of state chapter of PBL, leader of every group project that has been assigned to me at school(which is a shitload of projects), and I became the leader of the classes we had to take at Surry for the job at ASMO. Sooo, when we started working at ASMO, since I am the most outgoing and laidback, all of the new people choose to follow MY lead. YES, me a leader remember that when I climb the ladder of an International business and work my way to the top.

See, instead of pissin and moaning about jobs and not making money, i have decided to do something with my life....

Companys won't come to Canada we have very high wages up here. The US has lower wage scale than Canada. The average wage in Canada is 18-24/hr.

Posted by: SVOno5oh

If you need a job so bad, let me know. I can probably get your foot in the door in about 10 cities around the country right now. I know I can get you a job in Stephenville TX near Ft. Worth if you really need work. Figure $9 / hr to start and unlimited potential to move up if you want it. If you have your college degree, you can get in the door for $40K / yr plus, with unlimited potential to move up. There are company plants in Utah, 4 in Missouri, one in Georgia, one in Green Bay, one in PA, and of course TX.

Need work.... we're hiring. We'll be hiring over 200 people in TX over the next year.

Not in this end of the coast it ain't.

A skilled job around here pays $10-15 bucks an hr. here, plus it's expensive to live here too.

Posted by: LS1JAY

I have a cousin in California who makes over $25 per hour roofing, but it costs so much more to live there, that he's barely making it!
