Sorry, P. No fat chicks here...just a Ferrari 360 ass-whipping.

whaaaaa, no fat chicks???? (fer Mike??)
well I didn't open the link on dialup, but I will later on, so here's the take on the GT 40 without knowing the outcome, etc.
First of all, you won't find a fat chick in a GT 40 because they won't fit.
Secondly, it's a true balls-to-the-wall performance machine, that does not cater to the open-shirt-gold-chain-fat-bald-guy (and gal) who can't drive, but who can find their way into the Chevrolet dealership, and who wants to be seen in a hot car. I think it's a truthful engineering masterpiece that avoided the gay lapdog stylying salon at GM. How's thaaat?
Lots of the guys who drive Corvettes are good drivers and true enthusiasts, for sure, but the poor guys are stuck with the stigma that goes along with a car that GM wants to sell to virtually anyone. The GT-40 is designed and intended ONLY for the hard core auto enthusiast, and there's a big difference.
I would think the Brits would love the GT-40 because it's a reincarnation of one of their best designs. Take Lola out of the GT program and there wouldn't be those wins in the Ford column. Yes, Shelby, Alan Mann, and Holman Moody all had a hand in building the spec car, but it was conceived, developed, and designed in UK, like it or not. America has seen nothing like it since.
It was a combination of big American ego, big American bucks, a lot of talent on each side of the pond, and the FE motor. Without the FE, the GT-40 would have never killed Ferrari at their own game. The latter two wins at LeMans were the result of independents running the small motor version after the French and their pal Enzo managed to outlaw the big block aluminum headed solid lifter side-oiler. My only beef, is why didn't they build a big block version of this car????? That would have been truely remarkable, as there are plenty of new aluminum block FE's being built these days, the Shelby version is tested at over 1000 horsepower.
Don't worry about the GT-40, the only people you'll see driving that beast are the true driving enthusiasts. And.......the front end hasn't been massaged by some politico's lapdog in the styling salon, arf arf.

Don't get me wrong, I think the GT is awesome and would LOVE to have one. But no need to put down the Vette. Of coarse its no comparison with those exotics that cost 4 times as much, but for the money its one helluva car! And FWIW, I think the new headlights look great!
The 28 what, fat chicks standing by the Porsche? heh Is that all Europe will get?
I didn't think to include their take of the C6 when they rated the GT. That's biased as well as what they did. I can say I don't agree with their thoughts on the Vette, but that doesn't make them terrible people, just biased and opinionated about things they really don't know much about. Keep in mind, when they REALLY tested the cars, they used a REAL driver too! Not the tall goofy looking bastid talkin' smack! He rode around but I'm sure he wasn't the one who did the quick lap.
I also think the driver is more used to cars that drive from the right side, making both the 'Vette and the GT unfavorable to him in racing sense. I like the C6 about as much as the C5 personally, and have even considered looking into them, but I prefer the ZO6 still and that's not yet in the C6. Still, I'd much rather the GT if paying 3 times more wasn't an issue. That car is what I call "dead serious" about competition.

Corvette, Chevette, same styling studio, same manufacturer, probably used some of the same plastic.

well I just saw the video, guess they liked the GT-40, har har. It is one hell of a project, and Ford is to be congratulated for building it. It's a gift to society. So I guess the US now produces something that will "dominate" once again????
They made an error, saying the 7 litre engine was the one that won LeMans 4 times. The big block won two years in a row, and at that time Enzo Ferrari thought he had legislated Ford out of his life, by getting motors bigger than 5 litres banned. However, during the next two years, har har, small block Ford GT-40s that were not previously competitive, won the race in the hands of independents. No telling what Ford did behnd the scenes to assist with the engine development, heh heh. Boy was Enzo pissed.

ok, saw the video, and I have to say one thing...
their test driver cracks me up... first it was jefferson airplane in the vette, and now its Tina in the GT...
oh yeah, and the GT kicks ass...

Yeah, their choice of music is quite lacking.......it comes from being a sourpuss for days at a time.
Looks like Ford is still showing the flag in Europe, with a couple American made products, Panoz and Saleen. No wonder it was such a good fit for Ford to take over Jaguar, AC Cars, Aston Martin, and Rover in the UK, as they already had a rather good reputation over there, for providing power for the Sunbeam Tiger, the Cobra, various hot TVR cars, etc.

They're right about the power, Ford detuned the FE (427 solid lifter NASCAR motor they adapted for LeMans use, put on some aluminum heads for weight reduction, and set the power and rpm limit at 500 / 6000 in order to assure they would stay together for the long haul.
However, the same motor in NASCAR trim, with much higher compression, was pumping out an easy 50-hp more. When they developed the "tunnelport" heads and intakes for the 427, wow, that would have been a sweet motor in a GT-40.
Since the word "hemi" has recently surfaced, I'll point out that you never saw a hemi in anything like a GT-40 because although it did make a lot of power, it was much much heavier than the Ford big block. That was a factor in NASCAR, and allowed the Ford to be competitive.
When someone asked Sneaky Pete Robinson one day why he was cutting a chunk of iron off the corner of a block, and suggested it really wouldn't make any difference............Sneaky just kept on cutting. When the lump of iron fell off, he picked it up off the floor and handed it to the guy and said.............."here you go, now throw it a quarter mile".
Weight, power, and durability all are major factors in endurance racing, and the Ford FE was one hell of a motor in this area. It's remarkable how they can pull 500-horses from a small block, that must weigh even less than the big FE.

I saw a show about the new GT on TLC. I could have swore they said there was no, sound deadening, or radio, but there was an AC. I guess Im full of shit.

The show on TLC had preproduction test mules. Hell, I'd still take one even w/out the radio and sound deadening. That motor has got to sound sweet in that trim. May not want to ride 1000 miles in, but it'd be a fun trip to the grocery store...

Oh, ok, now it makes sense.

5.4L 32V, now that is one sweet sounding motor

I love the new GT-40. Ever since they came out ive been researching GT-40 kits.
I think I can build one that surpasses the original for around 75K. Kit cars arent all that bad, Sure its not "original" but technology has come a long way since the original GT-40 and AC Cobra. The kits have better handling stiffer chassis and better brakes. Not to mention what you can do with engines these days. Imagine a Cobra replica with a supercharged injected motor putting 800 the the ground. Sounds fun to me.
Here is one of the best kits i have come accross: http://www.roaringforties.com.au
If you read about them they have some of the original GT-40 manufacturers making parts for them. Be sure to check out their $8000 fuel injection kit wit 8 throttle bodies.
All I need now is donations. Anybody who want to donate to the "GT-40 for JR Fund" can just contact me. It will be tax deductible of course
