They're evacuating Tampa at 6:PM I understand, espcially the areas like Pass-A-Grille (ouch!). Surge is expected to be 10' on the barrier reef and 15' in Tampa.

Captiva Island south of Pass-A-Grille is going to be under water. Very serious.

(It's Charlie that's the one to worry about)

I've driven by the famous (at least around here) flamingo house quite a few times while camping up in that area. Very nice drive between Woodside & Pescadero. I Highly recommend it, if you ever get the chance. Check out the pics on the first few pages of this thread:

Hmmmm, how do you become an engineer at 21 years old? I thought it normally took 4-years of college and an internship before taking (and passing) the exam. Ahh just a detail, but you ain't an "engineer" unless you have the license, legally.

As for the trailers, they're cheap, cheaply built, and generally look cheap, but some people just need a cheap place to stay, and it's no big deal for them except those cheap huts are notorious for blowing away in the wind or floating away in the surge, socially sensitive or not, they're the first to go.

actually, FYI, i will be 22 the 18th of september, and i skipped 5th grade, graduating in 2000... i have been working as an EIT for 2 years while i was going to the last 2 years of school, and i have had my papers for about 6 months. what a pain in the ass school was. went there for 2 years while not working full time just to write down 200 pages of trig notes and formulas that i could have downloaded and printed out.

You shouldn't laugh at poor people. What do you do for a living anyway? What kind of money do you make? I bet I make more in a day than you make in a week!

Well congrats for working hard at it, and making something of yourself. What's your area of interest, and when are you planning on taking the state exam?

Not "That", You. I'ts not a good idea to start the "I make more than you" argument, you may be unpleasently suprised at what some people here make or don't make. You're doing fine so lets leave it at that.

just think jay. Next time you fly.... the plane might have MY engines in it

P- i have taken my FE and PPE, i work with licsensed engineers, so i dont think i need to get licsensed untill i go freelance. As it is now, i make more money on the side with my personal CNC than i do at work. That is under my fictious name bussiness, so i gotta pay wayyyy too many taxes

Get out there and see what real work is all about and I bet you'll have a new found respect for the working (lower) class.

And don't give me that shit about everyone should just get an education and get a high paying job. It doesn't always work out that way. As a kid my family was poor and my mom and dad were both working full time jobs at the age of 18 just to make ends meet. We didn't have a fancy house or any nice vehicles but they always made sure that I had everything I needed. Dad now has his own business and makes around 150K per year but he worked his way into it and did it all on his own without a college education.

People who bust their ass every day in a fuckin' sweat-shop for low pay should be commended, not made fun of.

Great post, I couldn't agree more.

I disagree. If you're anywhere close to the PE, you should take it, kill it, and put it in the bag. It will never get easier to take and pass, I'd stay with it until you have it in the bag.

As for those people you work with who "have" the license, they did it, and if you're as good, smart and clever as they are, you'll have it too. Otherwise, you don't have it, and you'll never get paid the same rate without it. There's no need to go 75%, or 95% toward a goal and then not finish the deed. Putting it off will only make it harder to finish.

Mr. P

I'm not saying by any means that I make more than most people in here, just more than a punk ass kid who lives with Mommy, drives Grandpas car and makes fun of poor people! I'm not rich by any means, but I make good money. That's all that I meant and I think you know that!

BTW Markass, I haven't flown since 1976 so I'm not concerned with you. Besides, you'll never make it anyway, being a drunk and all! I don't have a problem with someone who drinks, but I don't like drunks and you are nothing more than a street bum in the making! Maybe I'll see you on the street someday begging for money or turning tricks for $5? Either way, I won't be giving you any money!

Well said Evil!

Catagory 3 with wind gusts up to 150 mph! Winds will be a steady 110 - 120 mph when it hits! It sure is calm right now. kinda weird! This will be the worst to hit this area since 1921. Andrew was a catagory 5 with 200+ mph winds!

Posted by: Mr. P

Was it Andrew that formed "John's Pass" north of Pass-A-Grille in St. Pete????

Andrew flattened Homestead, near Miami.

Posted by: Mr. P

Well there was a big storm that ate all the way through St Pete sand bar and now there's a big channel there with a draw bridge. It happened one night when nobody was looking. That whole area is nothing but a sand bar.

$50k Canadian equals, what, ~$38k here? Hell, there's a Janitor here at my work that makes over $40k (over $53k in Canada).

That's nothing to write home about, but hey, at least it'll buy you a bunch of booze.

How long ago was that? I don't recall this storm. I was living in SE FL(1989-98) when Andrew hit. It sure was a little windy. Took every last screen from around the pool in our back yard...at least the ones that were left over from when we had a Rott that liked to plow through them.

When you're done rounding up all those pink flamingos, you better tie down your riding lawnmower to the single wide. Wouldn't want to lose one of these.

IMSA

Posted by: IROC_ZO6

thats pretty neat imho, a human powered riding lawnmover...

Funny thing is, I'll bet it works pretty well. Better than riding the stationary bike in front of the TV.
