I thought it was just a T5, but when my future father-in-law drained the fluid, he said it smelled like gear oil. So I have no idea.

well synth.atf works in anything.

I've heard they use Delco synchromesh fluid in it.

the best fluid for any syncro'ed 5 speed is gm syncromesh.

It was gear oil in it, but I finally got him convinced it took Auto Trans Fluid. It stilld rives ok, so it must to not have been driven with the gear oil much.

Popped out of lurk mode for this one...

T-5s require Dexron II (Dex III) as factory spec.

I've seen a lot of them with gear oil that was installed out of ignorance, which was probably what happened to you. GL4 or GL5 is WAY too viscous for a T-5.

If you have someone else do this stuff for you, you have to watch the techs at all times.

This trans was bought used from a car that has sat for several years due to the engine burned. He's got it in his car now, and it works good, so the motor must have burnt before the fluid did much damage.

Only time will tell.

ALthough I have used my T-5 behind a blower engine for a long time now without trouble, I do know that T-5s have a reputation for being tempermental.

Hopefully, you'll have the same luck I have.

I bought a Ford Motorsport X Gearset. I put this inside an 89-up World Class T5 Camaro case. I used a clutch disc from a Mustang along with the pressure plate from a Camaro. I had the pilot bushing machined to fit the Ford input shaft. I put this behind a 383 with the Lingenfelter Superram intake, AFR 195 heads, and DFI. This tranny was the best shifting, longest lasting GM T5 trans I have ever seen. With a little creativity, anything is possible!

Well she obviosly comes from a good family. Owning a 3rd gen and all, even if its a 305.

t-5's? I thought you went through t-56's like cheap toilet paper... Maybe its the driver?

Oh and I guess to keep it "tech" t-5's seem to be hit or miss. Some get trashed on a 160hp 305 and some withstand 300+ without much trouble. It depends on who you ask.

Very True, like my friend that was running 430+rwhp on his stock T5 with no troubles.

No mike, I break T5's alot, I broke 1 T56, and it wasn't my fault, it had something grinding when you shifted to 2nd anyway. It just so happens that paticular day, it decided to go poo on me. I ran it at the track twice, with no problems and no missed shifts.

I have to defend this as much as you and your detachable Flowmaster.

Oh yea, the car the trans came from was a 305. It went into a car with a '70 model 350.
