It was nice and cool tonight so I decided to head on down to Steele for some tnt. The barometric pressure was low and the humidity was kinda high but I figure the temps made up for it. I'm not sure what the D/A was yet but the track altitude is only 566 ft.

On the first run I took it easy off the line just to see how well the track was gonna hook.

First pass:
60': 1.66
1/8: 7.56 @ 90.83
1/4: 11.88 @ 114.50

Seems like the track is prepped pretty good so I launched a little harder this time:

Second pass:
60': 1.59
1/8: 7.46 @ 90.93
1/4: 11.77 @ 114.53

Daayum! These M/T drag radials hook just like ET streets! A friend of mine said that it was yanking both front wheels about 3" off the ground. I could actually feel them come up and bounce a bit when they came down.

Third pass:
60': 1.56 M/T Drag Radials
1/8: 7.43 @ 91.00
1/4: 11.73 @ 115.23

Timeslip

This was the best run of the night. I ran another 11.77 and then on the last run I coasted to a 14.something after spinning bad off the line.. The track was getting slick so I headed for home.

All in all a pretty good night. Nothing broke, but I did get a SES light on the way home. Gotta check that out and see whats causing it.

I know this thing will go 11.50s @ 116+ once I get the shift points adjusted. Right now its shifting at around 6200 RPMs but according to the dyno I'm making good power all the way out to 6700 rpms so theres still another tenth or two there.

My previous best ET was with the car stripped down to 3350 lbs w/ my 250 lb ass in there. Now its back at full weight @ around 3650 lbs and is raced exactly like its driven on the street.. so I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

BTW, I saw a new GTO running 12.50s @ 112 tonight. Dunno what mods he had done but damn those things sound great!

Just like the the f-bods brotha, it doesnt take much. M6 cars with excellent drivers have been trapping 105 or so in the low 13's bone stock. slp went 13.15 with a stock car and DRs. IAT relocate, CAI (baffles hurt the stock intake), catback, and drag radials will net the mid to high 12's. AS for the sound, thats what an LS1 with true dual exhaust front to back sounds like.

100lbs = 1 tenth.. 11.63 with you at the wheel. Hell we could put Tang in there and drop two more tenths.

I weighed in at 127lbs last night on the way back from a car show.

Thanks VETTKLR. BTW, I saw an 03-04 Cobra there running high 9s @ 130something on slicks. I don't know what all he had done but it was one fast mofo! Two others were there also. One was running mid 11s and the other was spinning his way to low 13s @ 110.

Awesome times Evil, even though I seen a Honda CRX Saturday that would take ya by 2 tenths in the 1/8...lol Best I could tell, most of the interior was still in it, but man what a weird sounding object.

Great times... Are the new times results of the new cam?

Posted by: LS1JAY

Great times! Glad to hear those tires work so well.

BTW... Kennis, go eat something! :flip:

Posted by: EvilLS1

Thanks.

Yep, but keep in mind the car is now about 300 lbs heavier than it was when I ran the 11.99 with boltons. If it was still at 3350 lbs it probably would have ran 11.40s or 11.50s.

Damn. I think Im gonna buy some MT drag radials. Nice times.

My best 60 footer on BFG drag radials was a 2.1

I also went to the track Friday, the best I could muster was 8.4 in the 1/8 mile. I only got to make 3 damn passes because the power was out at the track for 2 damn hours when I got there.

They said the lights went out as two 5.20 index cars were in the middle of a pass. That must have been scary as hell for everything to go black at about 150mph

Posted by: Tang

Evil you should really add "Full Weight" in your sig line, its definetly a good bragging point.

Posted by: EvilLS1

Hell yeah a black out at 150 mph would be very scary!

Forgot to mention a few things I saw at the track.. A guy on a crotch rocket crashed into the cement barrier. He was OK but fucked up his brand new bike. Also saw a DSM with way too much boost spread its guts all over the track. We waited for nearly an hour while they cleaned up broken pistons and oil off the track.

Posted by: Tang

Oh yea, well while watching the Reverese race we seen an S-10 lose it and hit the wall. He was ok, but he throwed paint and dust everywhere.

By the way, how hard would it be to drive a car that runs 5.80's in the 1/8 ? There is a guy trying to sell my uncle one, and he is reallly thinking about buying it. But he said he would need me to drive it, theres some good news...lol

Posted by: GMR

Very impressive Evil! Congrats!!
1.59 60ft jez, those MTs hook like a mofo, I bet they feel a lot better on the top end too. My best 60 on street tires is a 2.2 so far. Im sure I could get it way down on DRs but then my 10 bolt would bite the dust.

I'll let you know in a couple of years.

Thanks GMR.. Yeah they feel much more stable the the ET streets.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Great times Evil! So when will you remove the weight again and go for 11.50's or better??

5.80's in the 1/8th should still allow for a daily capable car... depending on the amount of nitrous involved.

Posted by: EvilLS1

Thanks Grape Ape. I don't think I'm gonna remove anything more than the seats this time. I'll just go faster by making more power from now on. No promises though. If I get down to 11.0-11.1s all motor then I might have to yank out some weight again to get into the 10s.

Evil, congrats on the new bests. Next time you decide to head down to Steele let me know. It's been a long damn time. Clay

Posted by: EvilLS1

Clay! Good to hear from you again. Friday night was the first time I've been back to steele since 2002. I'm just now getting the drag racing bug again. I was asking folks if they'd seen you lately. Do you still go to Steele regularly? What are ya driving nowdays?

Let me know what your email address is and I'll give ya a shout next time we go.

Dewayne

I haven't been to the track in forever. Been working 64 hrs a week for the last 9 months (plus an hour and a half drive each way to work) hasn't left me with much time. Lately, I've been spending all my money on home theater, but Clay's Cineplex is almost finished They finally hired some folks, so when they get trained I hope to be back on a 40 hr week. It'll be nice to have my life back.

I was just talking to Sherry about buying another SS or a TA. She still misses that car. It's gonna be a tossup between an LS1 car or a 1st gen. Camaro. We're supposed to get a good profit sharing check in Nov. So we could probably put it with income tax refund after the first of the year and pay cash.

Be sure and let me know when you head back to the track and I'll ride down there. I still use ss_98ragtop@hotmail.com Drop me a line any time.

Clay
