My buick sat for 15yrs covered up in a barn. We drug it out and poured some gas in the carb and she fired right up... Since then, I have done alot more work and a serious tune up to the motor.. I drove it once and it ran smoothly down the road.. I went to drive it again for a 2nd test drive and I put it in reverse, and you can feel it kick into reverse, it just doesnt go anywhere after that. Im going to rebuild the tranny, but im just curious as to what could be causing this....

Im going to ask the obvious, have you checked the fluid ? If the fluid is full, the strainer may be old and clogged, and just not letting fluid pressure get through. Try changing the fluid and strainer. My '67 Mustang did the same thing when the fluid leaked down, it would go better forwards than it would rearward.
If it doesnt go forwards either, and changing the strainer and getting the fluid to the proper level don't fix it, it might be a pump problem. I'm nt the best with automatics, but I'm giving it a shot here.
