I am installing a 455 olds (1970) in my Trans Am (1980). i am having a little trobble with the exhaust issue. I have long tube headers but they just dont fit under the hood (to narrow on the starter side). I think the solution to my problem is to find a pair of shorty headers because god knows how expensive a muffler shop would be to custom make me a pair but i guess if worst comes to worst i could do it. If you have any help that would be great.

Hedman sells custom kits. The tubes and flanges can be put together to fit your car. Might be a little cheaper than a total custom set.

Hi.... Every Body,
I"ve already made my own extrators for my 1979 trans am to fit Olds 455 engine.
The car is running and ready for licence.
Apart from the many other crazzy mods I had to do for a Right Hand Drive Conversion, ( I'm In Australia) the extractors where quite painfull But I have a JPEG of what they look like.
Top left are my Home made headers, bottom left is what I use to make an in Enginebay shape (out of heat riser pipe) and bottom right is what Olds 455 headers look like.
They look like Frankenstien Headers (if Dr Frankenstien where ever to have tried).
It might help you, or if you have them made.
I made them from a whole bunch of U bends. Had to make sure that they did not leak at the welds.
I also made provision to be able to pull out the starter at any time and change the oil filter.
Had to cut down to size and weld back the shaker hood canister and it looks preaty good.
Originaly I tried to modify Pontiac 455 headers and Olds 403 headers but that was no good.
