Im assuming he meant a Taurus . So my vote is the Focus.

You know if you fuckers would stop haggling new members about everything they say or ask about, then we might have more than just the old regs posting.

Welcome to the Pit, you'll have to put up with some childish behavior in order to get any "information", so be patient, and use a spellcheck

The Taurus is a lot more car than the Focus (size, weight, etc.) but since you can get a Taurus with several different stages of trim and equipment, it's hard to say which one would be best. I think the Taurus is a lot safer car too, as the Focus just got some pretty poor reviews.

I recently rented a Taurus, it had 16,000 miles on it, and it handled like crap. I don't know if it had been overly abused or what, but that particular one was pretty bad. It may be the "fleet rental model" for all I know.

If your looking at fairly new vehicles, (2000 and newer) I'd say Taurus. We have a 2002 Mercury Sable (we've put about 15000 miles on since we bought it) and haven't had a lick of trouble. It has more room, and is reasonably economical for the size. But if you are more concerned with mileage than comfort, the focus would do slightly better. I also know the Taurus/Sable are a little higher in the safety ratings.

I vote for the Taurus. One of my friends rented one when he totaled his truck, and the Taurus got about 26mpg with him absolutely hammering the crap out of it. It was a pretty nice car, fairly roomy.

We almost bought a 2003 Taurus wagon for the wife. I really liked it. It was loaded, 6 disk CD changer in the dash, leather, power everything, adjustable pedals and even had the little rear facing seat in the very back!! (brings back memories of when I was a kid in my parents Montego wagon)
It all depends on what you need. I like the Focus also,

What about the new Ford 500 SE?....They're priced around 22,000...and lots of room for a tall person.....

those actually look rather nice for the price. I saw one in person and they sit a tad bit higher it seems as well.

If you are buying used get a Focus. The trunk is nearly the same size, there is the same room in front and a little less in the back seats than the Taurus. I have both cars in my driveway right now. The reason I say Focus is mainly because a used 2000+ model won't run you much more than $7,000. Our 4 door focus had 80,000, is a 2002 and in perfect shape, and was sold to us for $5,000. YOu can't go wrong, and it's actually one of those underpowered cars that is still fun to drive for some reason.
On the other hand my '93 Taurus has 224,000 miles and has yet to break down once. The 3.8L is one reliable, smooth and reasonably powerful engine. Mine has never approached anywhere near 26MPG though
