Wheel backspacing, help soon please

Ok, the Draglites I was getting only has 4-1/4" of backspacing. That is measuring from the wheel lip to the mounting pad. I was told I needed 6-1/2" of backspacing, which would explain why they rubbed on the car they were on. So can they be made to work, or should I just pass them up ?

15 x 10 Draglites require 6.5" of backspacing

15 x 8's look nice with 5.5"

4.25" is gonna stick out ghetto style, I'm afraid.

to tell ya the truth, if it were offset another inch it would be rubbing my quad shock.

Have you reversed your quadshocks? they are 50/50 so you can do it and it will give you about another inch of clearance.

No I havent. Im gonna use these wheels, since they were freebies. Until I can get me some more anyway. I actually like the look of them on my car.

lets see some pics.

You could flare the fenders if they stick out...

Just remove the quads altogether. Save 'em if you like, but you don't need them all that much.

I like them on there. They dont stick out Ghetto tho. Not btoo bad, but it looks mean.

I think Im going to get me some 275/50-15 BFG drag radials as soon as I can. They are 1" shorter than the tires that are on it, just 20mm (almost an inch wider), but I dont think they will have any rubbing problems due to being an inch shorter. Now to find a spool cheap, so I dont have to rebuild the traction lock.

Jay's good buddy Howard, had a set of 275x50x15 Dragradials on a set of 15x8 Draglights w/ 4.5" backspacing and scared the outer edge of those tires up because of the offset. I hope you don't have the same problem.

fine fine, fookers, maybe I can polish these up and sell them, But who else would need a set of 4 lug draglites with the wrong spacing for a mustang ?

Posted by: Adrenalin

Hehe, I dunno but there seem to be quite a few sets out there, so you may not have as hard a time selling them as you think.

Posted by: Tang

What would ya ask for them, with good tires on them ?

Posted by: VETTKLR

Only restored Mustangs have the quad shocks still on them, Kennis.

So to run 275/50's , I need a 15x8 wheel with a 5.5" backspacing ?

Roger that.

If I polish these I have back to a mirror finish, would they be worth $200 with the tires ?

Posted by: VETTKLR

Hell, I'd throw em on ebay for 200 without tires.

But then he would have to deal with shipping wheels, which a lot of ebay users see as an expense stopping them from buying wheels unless they are really super cheap.

Posted by: Tang

Jamey had a good idea. I'll just throw some 225's on them and use them for front runners.

I have a 1990 Mustang with 295 50 15 and the drivers side rubs. What can I do I just bouth this car. Would a 275 50 15 be any better?

Posted by: Grape Ape

Get smaller tires, those are too tall and wide for a stock wheel well. If it still rubs, re-read this thread.
