Whats a cheap and inexpensive way to add quick horsepower to an grand am that isn't anything special but still could use the extra beans?

There is not a whole lot for a grand AM. Espically cheap.
Mabe a Cold air intake, Some minor exhaust mods.

There is some engine mods but none are easy or cheap.

Like these guys said.

On any car the first place to start is the exhaust. It usually yields the most benefit with the least cost in fuel economy.

However, don't expect improving the exhaust to create an instant hot rod (this is ture on ANY vehicle). You'll get a little more pep, but that's about it. The Grand AM V-6s just aren't performance engines and there is little aftermarket to support them outside of a few (expensive) things at GM Performance.

There are not a lot of options for this engine.

If I were forced to do one, knowing what there is to work with, I go find a wrecked GTP and look into buying the supercharger engine and electrical. (This doesn't qualify as cheap or quick)

Get a grand am like this one;

And drop an SD455 in it.

... but if you have a FWD model, exhaust , a chip and an intake would be my guess.
