It would be nice, wouldn't it?

Hey, OLE MAN.... what's the temps up your way? We're seeing 80's here today.

Wow! We haven't seen 29* here where I live in several years. I do however remember back in '89 when it got down to 12* here in Auburndale according to our thermometer (officially low teens). We had black outs because of the cold weather! We haven't had a freeze around these parts in several years!

What the hell is that stuff Ole Man? I'd run from it......

Posted by: Grape Ape

It reached 29 here this year, on more than 1 day. I was a bit surprised. No snow at all, but our lowest(for this spot) was 20* and THAT felt cold.

How far up in N. Fla are you?

I'll never forget the winter of '92-'93 when I was staying in Homeland after hurricane Andrew (for 9 months). I don't recall it ever even getting a "little" bit cold. Felt like summer almost!

Holy shit, I don't think we got any of that white crap here. It started hailing last night, but that's it.

I'm south of J-ville and south of Lake City too. I'm northwest of Daytona by about 50 miles, in the Palatka area. I think part of why it gets cols here is being fairly north... Still no snow, but it gets cold. Another part is being in a fairly high area of Florida(most of which is obviously flat) and having a lake about 125' from my back door. I have 2 outside thermometers and they typically match. One can be read from inside the house and the other has a rain guage attached still only a few feet from the door.

Funny side note: When I bring up Palatka weather on my homepage, it will be close to my actual noed readings, but when I see the news stations listed temps, they're almost always 3-4 degrees off in both hot and cold months. I hardly suspect I'm the only one who's noticed this. I simply wonder why they're so often wrong.

Kinda like the OLE MAN referenced. They say something, but someone with a working eye can tell they're not always correct!

Ur all bastards ! I see 29º on a regular basis every winter. I have seen the teens, and even down to single digits. The record low for my area was -10 back in January of 1985 , record high was 105 in July of 1954 . So that just blows that global warming bullshit all to hell.

for some reason I thought you moved to ocala Grapster.

Posted by: Grape Ape

Nah... A12/An11secRanger moved to that area. We helped each other move. Actually, we brought almost all his things here and stored it in the back garage till he got situated, then I took some over there but he did most of it without me. Ocala is roughly 1hr 30min from me. He lives about 30 miles from Ocala, in the middle of nowhere. That's why he's not online much. He has to borrow a PC(has been mine) because he can't get DSL or cable and refuses to use standard dial up! It's not worth it though, for him to drive 45miles just to get online, so he said, "Screw it! I don't need it anyway." and rarely comes over- and hops online for a bit.

I'd consider moving to a more rural area of fl if I could find work there. However, I'm not one who wants to drive 80miles a day to/from work.

You'd get tired of it, just like the city...It has it's advantages and disadvantages, one being nothing close by in case of an emergency...Your house would burn down before the fire department could decide which jurisdiction your in.....Forget trying to find a Hospital close by....You might as well become your own doctor.....Auto parts place? Start your own collection of one particular kind of car, like so many others do....you might end up with 40 cars and one that actually runs.....Grocery store? Green thumb it.....get those hands dirty and make sure the eyes of the night stay out of your garden....About the only cable you'll be seing is the one tied to the outhouse for electricity....When the well runs dry, expect to pay an arm and a leg, getting it re-drilled, only to find out the guys you called will need an atlas to find your compound and they might make it out there within the year.....Forget shooting the animals around your home front, the Florida State bird (mosquito) will hawk you down and rip pieces of flesh off your bones like no tomorrow....Other from that....It would be swell!

Small lots (a double-wide fits OK, but doesn't leave much room for a yard), and it's less than a mile from the a couple of landfills! Sure does SMELL sometimes, especially after it rains.

Oh yeah...no garages. All Carports.
