Default Welp....It's official....

.....I've retired from the military and I'm now a 100%, bonafide, unemployed, flat-faced civy!

I did the last of my release paperwork and such this morning, so I'm on DB for awhile due to a medical release. I got 18 years pension which will give me 36%, not bad.

Funny thing was, my last official day is tomorrow but I've already cleared the base, and my supervisor had the balls to say I was coming in!

Gotta love it.....

Hmmm....what do i do now?

File for ALL benefits you can and do it quickly, if you haven't already. Anything you let them "forget" for more than 24 months will be forgotten forever. Believe me, you don't want that. Anything you suffered during service is something you should be able to claim as a disability. You may not feel a need yet, but do your paperwork(they'll help) now so that later, when these things begin to bother you or otherwise affect your lifestyle, you'll have a record. Without it, they won't help. It must be on record with the VA too, not just the Navy... You were in the Navy, right? I've been in an "uphill battle" for yrs now and it's not only slow, but generally, at a dead stop.

Best wishes in your future endeavors.

Yup, interesting the little game that VA plays eh? I'm on my 3rd appeal for LBP.

I couldn't be sure if it was Navy, and now I see why!

The VA will help you, but you MUST do things in their order rather than yours, and of course, it takes too much time. I was talked into applying for more benes a couple yrs ago and it took them two applications(they simply misunderstood the 1st one, but told me they never got it... even though they HAD already made part of the change requested, thus letting me know they did in fact get it) and more than a yr to agree to 3 of 5 issues. Since then, they've pretty well shut me down, including on the issue that forced me out and another issue which they wrote me a letter about, telling me I qualified, but since I had a surgical repair, they decided to deny me anyway. Nevermind the fact I dealt with the problem for more than 17 YEARS before the repair! I'm still trying to get ... just anyone within the VA... to answer the "why" portion of that decision. To tell me something so blatently contradictory in the very same letter is simply astounding. Still, that's exactly what they did. Last word I got about it was in August as I remember...
