seems they didn't like their cars being called "girlie"

the "generation war" amongst cav owners is so dumb! here's an example:

Quote:
ha you mean an old, outdated, non classic econobox, slow, dead support, boxy 1st gen? vs a smooth, highly supported, comfortable, quick, fast, newer, 3rd gen. ha. there are VERY few nice 1st gens on here and you dont fall into that category. and define a car that is not girly so i atleast know what i am up against

and here's the poser who said it: http://www.j-body.org/reg/vink70

I wouldn't call his car gay... I'd call HIM gay! What kind of man drives a car like that? I'll tell ya... My WOman! She has a 2004 Cavi as well, but it's not so "gay looking" as his...

Tell him that I said GM "got it right" in 2005! I think the 2nd gen looks much better to me anyway. If I were looking for that model car, I'd be looking for an old Z/24 with the V6(which all Z24's seemed to have then)... And he THINKS his is quick!!!

sheesh- what a bunch of ignorant fucks! Someone asks how he can get his car to heat up quicker- so many suggestions are made, including using cardboard to cover part of the radiator. Someone mentions what is used on trucks, so I make a suggestion. Here is the response:

tyler wojo wrote:

I'd rather just take a blanket then waste gas like that. I was just wondering if there was a different coolant or if you could do what they do with diesel trucks or something. I'll just get a block heater.

Kardain wrote:
Step 1) Go to dept store, get something that comes in a big box
Step 2) Enjoy your new purchase
Step 3) Use cardboard from box to block off half of the radiator
Now while this may not fully accomplish what you are wanting, a block heater will not solve the problem. The purpose of a block heater is to keep the oil from getting too thick in the cold weather, not to preheat the coolant.

Diesel trucks have those grill shields/aprons/whatever they are called to keep excess cold air out of the engine bay since they rely on the heat from the combustion chamber to ignite the fuel.

they're called a winterfront- they're usually made out of heavy-duty vinyl and I've seen 'em with really cool designs; you could have an upholstery shop make something for your car

Wade Jarvis wrote:
Tell me why he should do this. There is no reason whatsoever that his car should need this especially after warming up for 10 minutes. Having a part that should not be on his car in the first place customized is stupid idea!

my last reply:
sheesh- I was merely making a suggestion for something that would look a LOT better than a piece of ugly cardboard! What is up with the ignorant @!#$s on this site?? And people always ask why Cavs are so hated- I'll tell you why- it's the attitude of the owners.

There's clearly too many idiots on the site... Problem is, most of them really appear to be in their low 20's... You'll remember, the time in which you still knew everything about everything and those who didn't think what you thought were just idiots... Then there's the time when you actually do know something.... and you'll be disliked for that too. Well, maybe you don't remember... It's generally a guy thing.

I must say, a cover for the front of a Cavi... Well, MAYBE the early square-nosed models. But a newer one... NAHHHHH.... I wouldn't bother, but I got your point. Cardboard... I've seen it done. It ain't pretty, even on a big truck. What those guys prolly don't know is that it's real reason isn't to build heat, but to keep it.

The block heater is basically made to help keep oil thin enough for startup. That said, many versions, probably most until the late 90's, also heat the coolant. That might be his only hope here. Seems he just wants to be able to get warm air into the cabin asap.

I might tell him to use the block heater, but NOT use the heat for the 1st 3-5 minutes after starting the engine. Then he won't notice cold air blowing in so much. And maybe he should also be told that it's FLOOR heat, not dash heat, he should be using to initially warm the interior. Once it's running at temp, switch to whatever makes ya comfy...

And I'd say, "put on a coat and gloves till it warms up."

For the past several years I've been hearing that it's not best to allow a vehicle to sit idling from a cold start till it warms up. Never really paid attention before, but some say that doing so might cause engine damage because the cylinders heat too rapidly for the heads, etc. and can cause blown gaskets or even bent vales or a cracked block. That said, I remember hearing, Ford Modular engines should be run 1-3min before driving in order for the piston/ring expansion or something. Something about the hypereutectic pistons tight clearance, but not until heated...

Anyway, those guys... I don't go to the site... But from what you show here... They're largely just idiots.
